Message from the Spiritual Director
Happy New Year!!
The Walk Continues in 2011!

Psalm 1:1-2 "Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night."
We are now already at least a week into the new year. Many of us have already broken our New Year's resolutions and looking for the next step in life. May I remind you of your Emmaus Walk and invite you to begin this years journey by thinking about Godliness and our walk with God? The Walk to Emmaus is mainly about our walk how we walk this road called life, but the question is how do we walk it. because this will benefit us the most in the coming year. Paying attention to God always pays! Everyone lives or walks the road of life, but the question or this year is how are we going to Walk it in a manner that glorifies God? How are we going to lives our lives so as to please God! It is my prayer that in 2011, your walk with God, will be so as to influence your family and others to also desire a walk with the Lord! Like Paul, "my hearts desire is that all would be saved" So, in 2011, I ask you to walk in such a manner that as you walk with the people around you, at work, friends and neighbors, something good will rub off on them and they will be compelled to walk with God as well!

Message from the Community Lay Director
Sponsoring...
Every year I look forward to singing in our Men's Chorus at church which we do twice annually - at Christmas and Easter. I most look forward to Christmas. It is so heartwarming to see the members of our congregation with their families both local and extended and the smile on their faces because they are all together for Christmas. It is much the same for me at a Closing for a Walk. I love seeing the Pilgrims, as well as the sponsors, who are so happy for them and their Walk experience. Remember your Closing and how you felt? Take a minute and reflect. Have you ever sponsored someone and remember how you felt as they entered the room to conclude the weekend? It is very special indeed. God has given us a gift in Emmaus. We have heard the Pilgrims describe it at any Closing - "A piece of Heaven"," I have truly experienced God's Love", "This weekend has been a gift", "I can't describe it, but it is truly wonderful" - These are just some of the phrases we have all heard in reference to the weekend. Maybe you said something similar yourself, I know that I did.
Each year on the anniversary of my Walk, I read my letters. I am instantly taken back to that Sunday in July when I did so for the first time. The letters always remind me that the Walk is a gift to share. As 2011 blossoms and we are all doing our new goals and resolutions, think about giving the gift of Emmaus. Sponsor a Pilgrim or two this year. The past few Men's Walks have been down in attendance. Think about sponsoring a man this year that you know would benefit from the experience. Be intentional about it. The purpose of the Walk to Emmaus is to create Leaders for the local church. What men have shown real potential in your church as a leader and are maturing as a Christian? Invite them to go on their Walk. Share the Love of Christ by being a sponsor this year.

Message from the Board
Jesus is the Reason
The holidays are now over and we are back to our normal routines. As I was hitting the "half price after-Christmas sales" for the coming year's cards and wrapping paper, I found cards saying "Jesus is the Reason for the Season." We said that a lot through December didn't we? But I was reminded, Jesus is not only the reason for the season, HE is THE REASON...period! Think about it. Why do we serve on teams and behind the scenes at Emmaus Walks? Why does each walk seem more and equally awesome as the ones of the past? Jesus is the REASON! Romans 11:35-36 and Isaiah 26:12 tell us that all we have, all we are, and all we will be are because of Jesus. He is the REASON! Our salvation is because of Jesus. He is the REASON! It's all about HIM. It is not about us.
Have we ever been known to get so wrapped up in ourselves that we become the center of our universe? Do we not have the time or desire to step out of our comfort zones to serve on an inside or outside team, to do a talk or devotion, to serve on the metro committee, take a board position, to teach a Sunday School class, or to visit a lonely senior citizen? But - Jesus is the REASON for Emmaus. Jesus is also the REASON we can serve. I Thessalonians 5:24 tells us that "The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it." I am claiming that promise. We all can claim that promise! As we serve the Dallas Emmaus Community together in 2011, may we decrease and Jesus increase in our lives. It's all about HIM. Jesus is THE REASON! DeColores! Dallas Emmaus Community Website
A community needs to stay in contact. The website at www.dallasemmaus.org is one resource you can use but not the only one. It complements and supports other methods to stay in contact that our community uses.
- Newsletters: the website has an archive of past newsletters and instructions to sign up for the newsletter
- Facebook: the website has a link to DEC's facebook page, be sure to join by clicking on the 'like' button
- Gatherings/Meetings: the website has a calendar to help you keep track of the date of events and walks
- Support a Walk or Walker: the website has information on being a sponsor, making agape, signing up for a Prayer Vigil as well as working as part of the 4th day team. Coming soon: a PayPal button will be added for donations to help reduce fees and provide scholarships.
Still there may be questions. The website has a list of common questions called FAQs. There are also names and email addresses for individuals serving on the various Boards and Committees. You are never far from the answer you seek. Since DEC is not in isolation there are links to other websites for Chrysalis and Upper Room's Emmaus website.
There is also a forum for posting a joy or concern on the prayer wall. You will need to register to be able to post. Only registrations with your full name as the user name will be accepted. For example: 'John Smith' not 'jsmith'.
