"My favorite gift of agape has been..."

A silver scripture bracelet

On my walk nearly 20 years ago, I received a very small brass cowbell.  After the weekend, I pinned that little cowbell to the back of my lanyard.  The cowbell reminds me where I've been, and the cross on my chest reminds me of where I'm going.  After all these years, the message is still the same.

So many but my favorite is a prayer rock.

The crowns, because I love that I am a daughter of the King of Kings!

A bookmark made out of plastic needlepoint canvas that has about 12 different ribbons... while studying I can mark multiple passages in my Bible at once.

A owl basket woven with love and care.

My "tiara" of ribbons - I still wear it sometimes to feel the love.

Thank you for sharing!

I started volunteering with our girls program on Wednesday nights.  This became one of the hardest things to do as I did not feel I was a teacher.  But through God, I can do all things.  He led and we did it together!

Men's Walk 228 needs pilgrims.  Please encourage sponsorship in your Reunion Groups and within your church's Emmaus Community.

Each Walk's success is a result of your prayers for the pilgrims and team. Please visit the Dallas Emmaus Community website to sign the online Prayer Vigil. The online Prayer Vigil supplements (but does not replace) the paper Prayer Vigil that is passed around at Candlelights and other DEC events for signature. Both the hand-signed and the printed online Prayer Vigils are posted during Walks for Pilgrims to see who has been praying for them.  Updated Prayer Rosters are available on the DEC website.

I Once Was Lost, But Now Am Found!
Now that I've updated my information.

In today's fast paced world, we often take it for granted that we have new contacts saved in our phone, tucked away in a day planner or could probably find what we are looking for in that directory we picked up at last year's annual conference which is... somewhere.

An accurate Membership Database is a vital aspect of communication.  This database is used to identify and contact potential leaders, musicians, speakers, assistants and volunteers.  Of course, if you are reading this newsletter, then likely you have already updated your information.

In this next phase of DEC updating its database, the board would like to request your help to spread the word by encouraging others to do the same.  One easy way is to forward this newsletter to others in your church Emmaus community and members of your Reunion Groups.

Men In Emmaus

I hope that this article finds you all well and surrounded by the Grace of GOD.  We as a community need to remember the roots of Emmaus.  The Catholic Cursillo was designed to get the men of the church involved by introducing them to the love of GOD.  Over the last few years our Men's walks have been reduced in number and now we are having a hard time forming walks and have not filled a walk over the last several held.

I am going to challenge you as the Body of Christ to step up and identify men that are ready to learn about the love of GOD through the Emmaus experience and also help these new pilgrims to see how that first step will start them on the journey to becoming the Spiritual Leaders of their homes and their churches.  Each and every one of us has come to know the love and Grace of GOD in new and deeper ways since we attended our walks.  It is still the goal of Emmaus to train leadership for our local churches and as a side benefit improve the leadership of men as a whole in their homes and communities.

Please help this Emmaus Community to fulfill our goal of training men to step up and learn how much GOD, and we, love them so they can go on their fourth day and share the love of Christ with all that they contact.  Through the great commissioning we are called as disciples to go and make disciples of the whole world.  I am confident that with prayer and the acceptance of the guidance of the Holy Spirit we can accomplish this goal and make our corner of the world a better place at the same time.

Please accept my Prayer: God be with us as we strive to attain the goals you have set for us, give us the insight, wisdom and energy to walk through this world as Disciples.  Help us to know you better each day so we can continue to share your love with all people.  Keep us in your fold and protect us from straying down our own paths, that we may do your will now and forever.  We ask these things in Christ Holy name.  Amen.

Message from the Community Lay Director

God Does Email Too!

As Community Lay Director for the Dallas Emmaus Community, one of my duties is to answer some of the inquiries that we receive via the DEC Website.  Recently, we received an inquiry from a lady who had been on her Walk in Oklahoma.  She wanted her mother and aunt to experience God's Love on their own weekend.  There is a small catch in that the mother and aunt only speak Spanish.  Her inquiry was asking if there is a Spanish speaking weekend in the Dallas area.  After some research and head-scratching, I found 3 in other regions of the country, but nothing in the TX/OK area.  I was unsure where to turn and look and I was getting a little frustrated when God answered the lady's prayer - - Right there on my email!  WOW!

The email said..........

"North Texas Tres Dias is about to launch a Spanish-speaking community in the area.  The new community is called Agua Viva (Living Water).  The very first weekend, a men's weekend, will begin on Thurs., Aug. 12th at Lake Sharon Christian Center off of Swisher Road south of Denton.  The following weekend, one for women, will begin on Aug. 19th.

We would like to invite anyone from your community to attend our version of Candlelight (called Serenade) on Aug. 14th and Aug. 20th.  There are a couple of things you should know, however.  First, we have only women sing for the men's weekends and only men for the women's weekends.  We gather at the further of the two dorms at Lake Sharon and practice the songs beginning about 5PM.  The Spiritual Directors will then come down to tell us how the weekend is going and to give us communion.  After that we head on up the hill to the main building to sing to the Pilgrims (Candidates).  We do hope some of you will be able to join us for these events.

If there are any questions please feel free to Ana and Walt Moner 214-357-5193 or Arden Mack at 817-656-8124.  Blessings and De Colores, Arden Mack"

Not only were the lady's prayers answered, but we have been invited to participate!  So if you would like to participate, call Arden Mack at the above number.  If you would like to sponsor a Pilgrim, do the same.  God does provide, even with today's technology!

Message from the Community Spiritual Director

Wanted :
Clergy to Serve on Emmaus Board and Emmaus Weekends

The success of the Walk to Emmaus weekend experience depends heavily on the partnership between the laity and clergy of the community.  While there are more lay persons than there are clergy persons on any given team, I need for the clergy to know that their presence is a very critical element in this spiritual experience of the Emmaus weekend.  Clergy persons are key elements to the spiritual assurance of one who is facing periods of struggle, discernment or a call to conversion.

As a Spiritual Director of an Emmaus Walk, I have seen many lives changed because of "a word of wisdom; a renewed sense of purpose; or a reassuring peace" that came from the spiritual direction of clergy persons who represent some sense of the presence of God on the weekend. Because of this representation of the presence of God, I have heard many testimonies of how the pilgrims have received the encouragement, the renewal of hope, and the reassurance they needed to move forward in their spiritual walk.  What an awesome blessing it is to be a part of such a great movement of God!  However, I am concerned that more clergy are not involved in this great spiritual movement beyond their own personal weekend. So, I write today in hope of encouraging more participation from our clergy, or to at least find out how to involve more clergy in this great move of God.

My term as the Community Spiritual Director for the Dallas Emmaus Community will come to an end in January.  I am sad to say that my efforts to find qualified Assistant Spiritual Directors to serve on the board, has been unsuccessful; therefore, there are no qualified clergy on the board to carry on this critical and blessed assignment.  The ministry and mission of the Walk to Emmaus depend on the Community Spiritual Director for leadership and oversight of the spiritual life of the Emmaus community.  Hence, any Clergy person having participated in an Emmaus Event, either as a pilgrim or as a team member, the Dallas Emmaus Community needs your help!!

In accordance to the Upper Room guidelines, "The Community Spiritual Director serves as the moral, ethical, and spiritual conscience of the Board, the community and the teams. The Community Spiritual Director is responsible for assisting the Board in the development and nurturing of clergy leaders, as well as helping to select those to serve on Emmaus/Chrysalis teams. The Community Spiritual Director shall be recognized as a competent, spiritual leader within his or her church or denomination and by other church leaders in the area. This person should also represent the best Emmaus has to offer!"  I plead with you, to please, hear and answer this call for qualified leadership. By answering this call, you are making it possible for the Dallas Emmaus Community to have a list of qualified spiritual directors to choose from in the database.

If interested, please contact me and I will send you the criteria for serving as the Dallas Emmaus Community Spiritual Director.

The Importance of Sponsorship

"As Jesus exemplified while praying in the garden (Matt. 26:41-42), we too must put ourselves in the position of allowing God to work through us."
Sponsorship; R.& J. Gilmore; p.9

The DEC Board wants to request you prayerfully consider sponsoring someone for the October men's walk # 228. Sponsoring someone on a Walk is not solely for the Emmaus Community. Emmaus is a place where congregations are strengthened.

InfluenceThe process  begins when an individual is enriched
through the development of a yearning to grow closer to
Christ.  As a result the person desires to see the same
happiness in the lives of their loved ones or dear
friends. Then those persons in their loved ones, and so
on, and so on.  Its in the action of sharing Christ's love
that we become stronger as a growing church body.

Because sponsorship should always start with prayer, DEC would like to ask you to pray and God to show you how you can help grow His kingdom. As you continue to seek His will for you through prayer His direction will become more clear with each day.

"The Walk to Emmaus is a tried and true movement. God has used Emmaus to change and mold many lives, and God will continue to do so as long as we allow it."
Sponsorship; R.& J. Gilmore; p.9

Agua Viva Tres Dias

What an honor and blessing it was to be a part of the first Tres Dias weekends "en Espanol" (in Spanish) which were held on August 12th -15th (men) and 19th - 22nd (women).  The new community is called Agua Viva Tres Dias.  Agua Viva means living water.  What a magnificent work the Lord worked in all of us!  Truly "over the top".

North Texas Tres Dias sponsored us and was very gracious to allow us to use the Lake Sharon Facility in Corinth, TX.   We just can't thank them enough for all they have done!  We all came together to serve the Lord and the men and women of Agua Viva Tres Dias #1.

AVTD has and will continue to open the doors to help us touch the lives of many men and women who have not been able to experience a Tres Dias Weekend because of the language barrier.   Lives were touched profoundly on these weekends - the Holy Spirit was in the house!

Agua Viva Tres Dias #2 dates are:

Men:                 February 10-13             Rector will be Walt Moner
Women:            February 17-20             Rector will be Maria Arce

We look forward to what God has planned for us and for the Hispanic Community in the future.

If you would like information or wish to contribute in any way please contact: Walt & Ana Moner at 214-357-5193 or anamoner1@yahoo.com.
