Send us your stories and photos. We'd love to share them with the community. What are we doing? How can we help each other? What are some of the resources being used on Fourth Day? We would like to know what members are finding effective in keeping the Fourth Day strong and vibrant.

Come One! Come All!
Women's Walk #224 at Sabine Creek Ranch begins Thursday, March 18th, at 6:30 p.m. with Send-off and a potluck dinner. All are welcome.
Candlelight will be held as usual on
Saturday night, March 20th, starting at 8:00 p.m. Community members are also invited to attend Closing at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 21st. Plan to come out to Sabine Creek Ranch. Let your presence be a blessing to the Pilgrims of Walk #224. There are many ways to support Walk #224. For example, support with your presence at the Walk events, or support with your service on the Fourth Day Team, or support with your prayers for the Pilgrims and Team of Walk #224. All of these are important and enrich each Walk. Walk #224...may the Light of Christ be with you!

Message From The Assistant Community Lay Director
God's Love
When each of us took our Walk, we experienced God's Love. We saw it in the prayer vigils, in the Team, in Candlelight, in the prayers, in our fellow Pilgrims, in the food, in the talks, in the letters from other Emmaus Communities around the world, and in just about every aspect of the weekend. We were given a tremendous gift from God - again! When I was growing up, my parents instilled in me and my brothers, the learned appreciation for the many gifts that we are given. Specifically, we were taught to give back to others for the many gifts that we receive. We were taught to always give something back in better shape than we received it, if we borrowed something. When we were given a gift from someone else, to always give something of equal or better value/impact back to them when we could. Pay it forward, as it is now known. This was an important thing that we learned. What a great life lesson, a gift, to give your children! Thank You Mom and Dad.
Having been taught this lesson as a young lad, I remember that as I grew up and matured how invigorating it was when I learned that IT IS "better to give than receive". Gosh, that was a hard lesson to learn as a kid, but as an adult, I have learned to revel in it. I think that God wants us to do just that! He wants us to learn the Joy of Giving. So during this season of Lent, as we are called to "give something up" and "take something on" (to step out of our comfort zone), I would like to challenge each of you. Someone gave you a precious gift in your Walk to Emmaus. Pay it forward. Return the gift in equal or better shape than you received it. Sponsor someone for their Walk; Show up at a Candlelight and be one of those smiling faces; sign up on a prayer vigil and BE that person praying for the Pilgrims at 3 a.m.; Volunteer for a 4th Day Team and serve anonymously to help someone, that you don't even know, experience God's Love. Do a bit more than what you have always done. Get out of your Emmaus comfort zone. Step out in Agape Love. Do something as an act of Christian Action to pay your gift of Emmaus forward. Many people did for you! It is "Better to give than receive".

Will Dunn

Let's Talk Finances...Our Financial Information
Recently your Dallas Emmaus Board of Directors was discussing the financial condition of the community and, although information is presented to the community at the Annual Meeting, we wanted to share this information with the wider community than those in attendance at a single event.
While the community does have funds on hand for operations, the tide has turned from the early years of the community where walks were operated with surplus funds, building excess funds for the future. We are now operating each walk at a deficit and are depleting our operating reserve as we try to hold the price of participation in walks as low as possible. We had the joy to provide the Walk to Emmaus last year for 342 individuals ... Pilgrims and team participants, that provided participant fees for the walks at the rate of $150.00 each (see the table below). However, as you will see, the cost exceeds that participant fee substantially.

The Board has increased participant fees for 2010 to $180.00 for both team and Pilgrims (with those having already paid based on prior registrations "grand-fathered"); however the Board would like to ask for your prayerful consideration and help to avoid further cost increases to participants.
Note that under Income in the table above, the Walk Fees include numerous scholarships paid by individuals specifically for other Pilgrims and team and the Offerings and other revenue include Candlelight offerings, meal offerings and other gifts that provide support for Walk participation.
As you can see, the largest part of the $206.11 cost per participant is in direct cost of providing food, lodging, and weekend supplies. Then a much smaller cost for other direct weekend costs...things like training, storage facilities, web hosting, newsletters, etc. The first action by the Board has been to look at keeping costs under control.
As with our participation and service commitments, where Walk to Emmaus teaches to first serve our local churches rather than Emmaus, this also extends to our financial contributions. However, if you can give above and beyond your gifts to your church, your Dallas Emmaus Community could use the assistance as we strive to serve additional Pilgrims in their Walk to Emmaus and further their walk with Christ. If you are able to help, contributions may be made at Candlelight events by placing a check in the offering or via mail to the community mailing address:
