Send Us Your Stories! |
 |
Send us your stories; we'd love to share them with the community. What are we doing? How can we help each other? What are some of the resources being used on Fourth Day? We would like to know what members are finding effective in keeping the Fourth Day strong and vibrant. Thank you to last month's contributors:

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Walk #221 at Sabine Creek Ranch begins Thursday, October 15th, at 6:30 p.m. with Send-off and a potluck dinner. All are welcome.
Candlelight will be held as usual on Saturday night, October 17th, starting at 8:00 p.m. Community members are also invited to attend Closing at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 18th. Plan to come out to Sabine Creek Ranch. Let your presence be a blessing to the Pilgrims of Walk #221. There are many ways to support Walk #221. For example, support with your presence at the Walk events, or support with your service on the Fourth Day Team, or support with your prayers for the Pilgrims and Team of Walk #221. All of these are important and enrich each Walk. Walk #221...may the Light of Christ be with you! |

Energizing Your Reunion Groups

Oh the glorious glow and glimpse of heaven we experience during our Walk!! Wherefore art thou? We know the power of our Reunion Groups to keep us centered, accountable and involved-keeping that fire ablaze! We also know the realities that drag us back to the world, back to our old priorities, and routines. At FUMC Heath, we stepped up to the challenge of pulling together our 50+ Emmaus members together as the body of Christ. Almost half our members are in reunion groups and many attend Candlelight, write letters, work the Walks, sponsor pilgrims, and support the Kairos ministry. We have even hosted gatherings at our church inviting other Emmaus groups from churches in our area. All these attempts are good, but it hasn't stirred the embers to sustain our cohesiveness. A spark has taken hold since we designated an Emmaus member to represent the community on our church administrative council, which meets four times a year to discuss all church business. Not only did this give us visibility and a voice in church matters, it led to the formation of an Emmaus committee to determine these goals:
- To involve, support, communicate, and grow our Emmaus members to the hands and feet of Christ.
- To encourage and pray for the sponsorship of new Pilgrims.
To accomplish our first goal we have done the following:
- Invite/encourage Emmaus brothers and sisters to join reunion groups.
- Establish quarterly Emmaus-sponsored potlucks after church, as acts of agape, inviting all members of the Emmaus community as well as visitors and church members.
- Organize group agape making immediately following the quarterly potlucks.
- Monthly, we share local Emmaus news from our groups as well as that from the Dallas Emmaus Community.
- Communicate dates and organize carpools for Candlelights.
- Invite/encouragednew members to participate in Fourth Day activities.
- Conduct an Emmaus led church service.
- Send the prayer vigil via email so that everyone can easily commit to praying for the Pilgrims.
- Plan a gospel sing gathering for Emmaus members from area churches as well as for non-Emmaus members from our Heath community.
- Sponsor a summer picnic/potluck for the Heath Emmaus Community.
To address our second goal we have implemented these activities:
-
Created a booth and PowerPoint of Emmaus information for our Mission Possible Sunday.
-
Invited representatives from the Dallas Chrysalis Community to address our youth and parents.
-
Communicated our Emmaus Community Information at our church in a variety of ways: Welcome Center, using an Emmaus bulletin board, our newsletter, the church website, and we display news on the church digital monitor.
These are small steps to put us back on the path of revitalizing and reenergizing our Emmaus Community. We pray that the Holy Spirit will empower us and you to find new ways to grow spiritually, to lead others to become Christ's disciples, and to stay on the path that leads us home. Do you feel God nudging YOU to bring your reunion group together to spread and share the Word about the power of God's love you experienced on your Walk?

The Annual Dallas Emmaus Community Chili Cookoff Gathering
On November 14, 2009, we will host a more condensed Gathering including potluck supper, fellowship, praise, and a 4th day witness. Worship is not held at this Gathering, since it is usually scheduled on the same day as a Candlelight, where we do have a worship service with Holy Communion. For the past few years we have considered it an annual chili cookoff gathering. Come and bring your best pot of chili and sample others. For more information...
All are welcome! |
Our gifts of prayer lead to a spiritual peak for Pilgrims.
If you haven't had an opportunity to sign the paper Prayer Vigil for Walk #221 remember, you can still sign the online Prayer Vigil.
Remember, the online Prayer Vigil supplements (but does not replace) the paper Prayer Vigil that is passed around at Candlelights and other DEC events. Both the hand-signed and the printed online Prayer Vigils are posted during Walks for Pilgrims to see who has been praying for them.
