Men's Walk 219
Walk 219 at Lake Sharon begins this Thursday, June 25th at 6:30 p.m. with Send-off and a potluck dinner. Candlelight will be held as usual on Saturday night, June 27th, beginning at 8:00 p.m. Community members are also invited to attend Closing beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 28th. Come on out to Lake Sharon and let your presence be a blessing to the Pilgrims of Walk 219. Even more important than your presence at Walk 219 events are your prayers for the Pilgrims and Team of Walk 219. If you haven't had a chance to sign the paper Prayer Vigil for Walk 219, please visit the Dallas Emmaus Community website and sign the online Prayer Vigil. The online Prayer Vigil supplements (but does not replace) the paper Prayer Vigil that is passed around at Candlelights and other DEC events for signature. Both the hand-signed and the printed online Prayer Vigils are posted during Walks for Pilgrims to see who has been praying for them. |
Message from the Community Lay Director
What's in a number? 7 6 9 1 Seven. Six. Nine. One. Four ordinary numbers. Individually, each has value. However, move them closer and view them as a unit, and they take on a whole new dimension. 7,691 Seven thousand six hundred and ninety-one. A much bigger number, yes. But, still just a number. That number (actually any number - big or small) has no meaning and serves no purpose unless we know what it represents...what it stands for. The same is true for God's people. Each of us can serve God individually, using the talents and gifts He gave us. But when we gather together and combine our God-given strengths and abilities, then we, too, take on a whole new dimension. 7,691 A big number, indeed. However, that number alone would have no significance if we did not know what it represents....what it stands for. Seven thousand six hundred ninety-one is the number of members in the Dallas Emmaus Community after the completion of Walk 219 this weekend. Now that is significant! I pray that we join together - all 7,691 in the Dallas Emmaus Community - for God's purpose and glory. That we unite the gifts and talents He gave each of us so that we can do His work, show His love, and touch His people. Some say there is power in numbers. Most would say there is even more power in Christian love. So, what can you do? Come to Candlelight (the next Candlelight is this Saturday, June 27, at Lake Sharon) and hold a candle for the pilgrims. Volunteer for a 4th Day Team. Sign the online prayer vigil and pray. Prepare table agape. Bring food agape. Sponsor a friend, co-worker, neighbor, or relative. Make your number count!

2009 Walks to Emmaus in Russia
In 1990 a dream was born to bring the Upper Room Emmaus to Russia. This dream was finally realized in 2008. The first two Emmaus walks in Russia were celebrated at Zyuratkul Camp (Heavenly Lake) in Satka (go here for more information on the First Walks in Russia). The men's walk was on July 16-19 and the Women's walk was on July 21-24. They had fourteen men and twenty-three women attending walks 1 and 2. Now preparations are in place for the second set of Walks to Emmaus in Russia. The location and dates are set for Russian Walks to Emmaus 2009! Where: Satka, Chelyabinsk regions When: July 15-18, 2009 (Men's Walks) and July 22-25, 2009 (Women's Walk) If you would like to make a contribution (please make checks to GBUMC) or provide agape letters and gifts (40 will be needed for both the Men's Walk #3 and the Women's Walk #4) please send to:

Message from the Community Spiritual Director
A Place Called Emmaus My trip to Israel in March was one of the highlights of my life. By the grace of God and the love of a friend, Kirk Ragsdale, I was on my way to Israel to go to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv; to see where Jesus was born; to walk where Jesus walked; to sleep where Jesus slept; to eat where and what Jesus ate; to ride on the seas He rode on; to sit where He stood and taught; to view the place where He would return; to walk the Via Dolorosa; to float in the Dead Sea; to spend a day in the Old City; to share in the meditation and the Lord's supper at the garden tomb; to feel what it was like to have been baptized in the Jordan River; to see the immensity of the stones of the walls of Jerusalem; to pray at the Wailing Wall; to climb (ride the sky lift) to Masada, to bargain with street vendors; and much more.

Personal Walk Testimonies
My Journey - However Long It May Take Me!
There is a long standing joke about me in my circle of friends. I am a self-proclaimed "Remedial" Christian. What this means, at least to me, is that it took me so darn long to finally hear Jesus knocking on my heart and even to this day, I seem to be the last one to finally "grasp" a biblical concept, or any concept really...more
My Emmaus Walk Everyone needs time to get away from the daily experiences of life that distract them from their true purpose, which is to focus on God. I really needed this time however did not realize it, but someone did. My reason for going on this walk was a friend's encouragement and his lifestyle which showed a true commitment to Christ. Even before arriving, I could feel the power of prayer even though I did not know I was being prayed for. After seeing the prayer lists and agape, I realized what was happening. This walk was a very powerful experience for me and I was able to focus and reset my priorities with God as number one... more
My Experience I went on my Walk to Emmaus with anticipation and uncertainty of what to expect. I hoped to get away from the busyness that seems to be my life. I hoped to spend some quality time in prayer. And I thought that if I could meet some new Christian women, that would be cool, too. I really had no idea what was in store for me... more
