DEC

Greetings!

Walk 217 is this weekend!

Women's Walk 217
Ready to head out to the lake?  Lake Lavon, that is!  It is springtime, even though the temperatures outside in the Dallas area today don't feel like it.  Walk 217 at Lake Lavon begins tonight, March 26.  Send-off begins at 6:30 p.m. with a potluck dinner.  Candlelight will be at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night, March 28.  Closing will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.  Want to rekindle that fire in your heart?  Then come out to Lake Lavon and let the radiance from the Pilgrims' faces ignite a spark in you!!!

Also, if you haven't had a chance to sign the paper Prayer Vigil for Walk 217, take a minute now to visit the Dallas Emmaus Community website and sign the online Prayer Vigil.  The online Prayer Vigil supplements (but does not replace) the paper Prayer Vigil that is passed around at Candlelights and other DEC events for signature.  Both the hand-signed and the printed online Prayer Vigils are posted during Walks for Pilgrims to see who has signed them.
DEC Board Elections - Last Call!
Voting ends for the 2009-2010 DEC Board on March 31.  Ballots will be available at Candlelight for Walk 217 at Lake Lavon this Saturday, March 28.  You can also download a ballot (see link below), fill it in, sign and mail it.  Or, you can submit your vote online by clicking on the link below, making your selections, entering your information, and clicking the Submit by Email button.  Voila! Your ballot will be on its way via email. Quick and easy! You can even print a copy of your completed ballot if you wish.  Please remember that all ballots must be received via email or postmarked by March 31, 2009

Two men and two women will be elected.  Candidates for the men's slots are (in alphabetical order):  Tim Bubel, Mike Donohoe, Will Dunn and Chuck Rohre.  Candidates for the women's slots are (again in alphabetical order):  Nancy Boyette, Anna Clemons, Letitia Nachtrieb and Kathie Seeley.

Why Should YOU Sponsor?
Everyone knows that we need Pilgrims on Walks and Cats on Flights.  But that's like putting the cart before the horse....the egg before the cluck hen!  Since every Pilgrim and Cat needs a Sponsor, wouldn't it be more accurate to say that we need Sponsors on Walks and Flights?  But, why should YOU sponsor?  Well, as you may remember hearing during the talks on your Walk, each of us might be the only means our friend, parent, neighbor, co-worker, child or even a stranger has to hear about Jesus.  Same thing with sponsorship.  YOU may be the only way someone else hears about Emmaus or Chyrsalis!

Belowe are comments from two Dallas Emmaus Board members along with feedback they received from recently sponsored Pilgrims:

From Ella McDonald (DEC Board Member and Community ASD)

The Walk to Emmaus is a God led spiritual experience that can bring spiritual revitalization to church leaders, and in turn, contribute to new life and vision for the work of their local church. Pilgrims, who have been prayerfully chosen to experience this weekend, often return to their family, churches and communities with a renewed commitment to become effective disciples for Jesus Christ. Therefore, sponsorship is a very important aspect of the Emmaus Walk weekend that should be taken seriously, carefully planned, diligently considered, and followed-through. When done correctly, the pilgrim that God lays on the heart of the sponsor receives a deepened relationship with Jesus and thus becomes an enthusiastic disciple eager to do God's work.
Please read this letter from one of the members of Agape Temple who experienced a life changing spiritual renewal as a result of good sponsorship.
Thanks,
Rev. Ella McDonald

To:  Dallas Emmaus

Greetings,

I want to share with you the experiences I had while being on the Walk to Emmaus.  Being a fairly new Christian and a single mom, I truly had mixed emotions about taking this new adventure.  I felt that perhaps I did not know enough about Christ to be a part of this walk, and as a single parent, I felt so nervous about leaving my daughter and my family for this period of time without having any means of communicating with them.  My nervousness and doubts did not cease until after I settled in the first night and had experienced the most friendly hospitality I had received in years from the sponsors of the walk.

As I arrived the first evening, I was surrounded with an enormous show of love and support.  Everyone seemed to be full of excitement and so friendly.  I meet so many people- all with a spirit of JOY and LOVE!

Over the three days, although it seemed our days were full, there was so much PEACE!  Every aspect of the days were so motivating.    During the sessions we shared our life stories, shared our challenges, prayed and embraced on another; then during the still of the night we quietly reflected on the goodness of God.  Without the distractions and interruptions of family, friends, cell phones, etc., I felt that it was in those quiet times that I really listened to God and established a closer relationship with Him and knew there was HOPE for me and the future ahead.  I was so honest about things in my life; I opened myself to hear from God as I focused on being a lifelong servant for Him.

As we walked along the quiet and dark paths each night, I related to the story in Luke and I felt that I too, now had a closer walk with the Lord.

The Walk to Emmaus was a spiritual cleansing and renewal for me.  It was a time that I honestly and openly looked at me and my relationship with the Lord.  It was an experience that I hope to never forget and I pray that many others will have the opportunity to take this spiritual and blessed journey.

Walk #207
Table of Sarah
From Kirk Ragsdale (DEC Member):
From the last pilgrim that I sponsored in response to what sponsorship means, he says:
Even though I have not sponsored anyone yet, I think sponsorship is giving from the heart. A gift that is unmatched by anything and that gift is a renewed faith."
That says it all!
Kirk Ragsdale
Please pass the gift of Emmaus on to others.  Please pray to God that He reveal to you someone who will benefit from Emmaus.  Then, begin praying for that person to be receptive to hearing about Emmaus and for God to show you the right time and to give you the right words to talk to him or her about going on a Walk.  Remember to share what your Walk meant to you and how it has affected your life, your service, and especially your relationship with God.

"New" Community Assistant Spiritual Director
The Dallas Emmaus Community has added a "new" Community Assistant Spiritual Director, although she is not new to the Community nor to being a Community ASD at all!  Rev. Ella McDonald,  who has served as a Community ASD and the Community SD in the past, recently accepted the call and invitation to rejoin the Dallas Emmaus Board as a Community ASD.  Ella will join with our other Community ASD, JoNell Lindh, in working on Community spiritual matters.  We thank God and praise Him for such faithful servants to His people and to our Community.

New Emmaus "Purple Worship Book" Still For Sale
The new Emmaus purple worship books recently released by the Upper Room are now being used at all Dallas Emmaus events, including Walks, Candlelights, Closings, Gatherings, etc.  The new version of the Emmaus purple worship book is significantly different from the old one, so you will likely want to pick one up the next time you are at a Candlelight or Gathering -- like at Candlelight this Saturday night at Lake Lavon for Walk 217!  The new Emmaus purple worship books will continue to be available for sale to the Community at all Candlelights and Gatherings for $3 each.  For more details, visit the News page on the DEC website and read the Upper Room announcement.
