DEC

Greetings!

Get ready to kick off 2009 - Emmaus style!

New Year Gathering and Training Event - January 24
And there's no better way to kick off 2009 and get back in the Emmaus swing of things than to attend the New Year Gathering and Training Event on January 24, 2009, at Highland Park United Methodist Church (3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas).  Food, fun, fellowship, worship, enlightenment, and enrichment will abound!  Training sessions will begin at 3:00p, followed by a Potluck Dinner at 5:00p, and then Praise and Worship with Holy Communion at 6:00p.

Want to learn helpful tips and hints for writing a talk?  Well, attend the training session on "How to Write a Talk".  Or want to hear how the Dallas Emmaus Community functions?  Then plan on attending the training session on "The Ins and Outs of the DEC".  Don't know how to do PowerPoint or where to begin on making posters for talks?  You're in luck!  The PowerPoint and Poster How-To's training session includes basic PowerPoint instruction plus information on the DEC PowerPoint template, as well as practical hints and tips for making posters.  Other training sessions being offered are Sponsorship, 4th Day Service, and an all-day Musicians training session for those who are interested in leading music at Candlelights, Gatherings, and on Walk weekends.  The schedule for all training sessions is listed on the attached flyer.

Enjoy a little friendly competition?  Then the Agape Contest and Participation Contest are for you!  More information about these contests is included on the attached flyer, which also includes a map and parking instructions.

Last (but most definitely not least!), those who attended Walks in 2008 as Pilgrims and those who served on team for Walks in 2008 will be recognized during the Potluck Dinner.

Please come if you are able.  You will be so glad you did.  Remember the three-legged stool?  Well, the New Year Gathering and Training Event has something for each of the three legs:

STUDY:  The training sessions provide opportunities to grow and expand your knowledge of how to serve God.
ACTION:  Contribute an entrée, vegetable, dessert or drinks for the Potluck Dinner.  Come ready to fellowship with those you know and to make new friends with some in the Dallas Emmaus Community whom you haven't had the chance to meet yet.
PIETY:  If you heart isn't burning by the time the Praise and Worship Service begins, the music and songs, worship and Holy Communion are bound to spark your heart for Christ into a crackling fire by the time you leave!

By the way, don't forget to wear your lanyard and nametag and to bring your purple worship book!

If you have any questions about the New Year Gathering and Training Event, please contact either of the Regional Committee Chairs:  Rosemarie Gagnon (214.215.7209) or Anna Clemons (214.770.2403).
