Terry McMillan Dear Book Lover:

I don't know about you, but I'm getting more and more excited about this year's NBCC as we get closer. And we are really close now. So much will happen over the 2 1/2 days -- I hope you are ready.

Among the wonderful events will be the first-ever Author Spotlight at the NBCC with special guest Terry McMillan (left). I will probe our literary giant in a one-on-one interview and delve into all issues Terry -- her writing style, her new book "Getting To Happy" (coming out next summer), the state of black literature and so much more.

And you can join in, too. Have a question for Terry McMillan? Send me an e-mail (curtisbunn@yahoo.com) and it could be selected to be asked during the interview. Include your name, book club and location.
The interview will be posted next month on www.nationalbookclubconference.com. So will many highlights of the weekend.

NBCC Reminders
Things to "pack" before you get here

The World's Largest Book Club MeetingThe first thing you must pack for the NBCC is patience and a warm spirit. There will be lines; instead of fretting over them, meet someone in front or behind you.
Be sure to bring your cameras. You'll want to capture the weekend in photos, too. For Saturday night, by all means, pack that Beyonce' gown; flaunt what you got. It's a glamorous, fun evening that Dr. Cornel West (above) will put a nice ribbon around as he receives the Walter Mosley Author of Distinction Award at the dinner/banquet.

New Authors To Discover
Don't Sleep On Undiscovered Talent

Stephanie Tillman
For sure, you attend the NBCC with the idea of meeting and hearing from some of your favorite and popular authors. But part of what we do is introduce you to outstanding new, talent too, and we have a bunch of it slated for this year's NBCC. Included in that group are Leon Mann Jr., Phyllis Simms, Stephanie Tillman (above), actress Phyllis Stickney, Karen B. Dade and Harrine Freeman, among others.. Additionally, you will meet dozens of self-published authors who have crafted attention-worthy books. So, as a book lover, you will be in heaven.

Pamper Yourself
Wonderful massages, facials, etc.

Float
About eight minutes from our Marriott location is a place of relaxation and comfort -- Float, a spa experience that is relaxing and wonderful. Indeed, the upscale but affordable spa has offered to NBCC participants some outstanding bargains, including $39 on all massage treatments. There are even book club specials. So call (404.228.4423) Float or visit them online (www.floatforvalue.com or click on the logo) to add a soothing massage or facial to your Atlanta experience. You'll be glad you did.

2010 NBCC Anyone???
Next year already shaping up great

Deberry & Grant
Already, we are planning for another special literary occasion next year here in Atlanta. On board already are many best-selling authors, including Walter Mosley, Virginia DeBerry and Donna Grant (above), ReShonda Tate Billingsley, Lyah Beth LeFlore, actress/best-selling author Victoria Rowell, Grammy-winner/author Eddie Levert. Rest assured there will be others who will again make up the premier literary retreat of the year. So, it will be important to start planning to join us in '10 starting now, as the demand for the event continues to expand. At the NBCC in two weeks, we will offer an early bird registration rate (as we do each year), to give you a chance to save significantly off the full value for 2010.

The "God Series" is back with Mary Monroe's new book "God Ain't Blind"

Mary Monroe
As a special treat at the NBCC, you will be the first in the country with an opportunity to purchase Mary Monroe's  new book to be released in September, "God Ain't Blind."

And Mary Monroe (left) will be there to discuss it!!!

After a four-book hiatus from her New York Times bestselling "God Series," Mary is back spinning another engaging and entertaining story in her latest work.

This is the 12th novel for Mary since 1985, and it serves as a significant literary entry. See how we spoil you at the NBCC???
