Your "Smokin" Good News
|
Hi Everyone,
I'd like to start by thanking Todd M. Johnson for being our Pipe Maker of the Month. Todd is one of America's finest and I appreciate him taking the time to work with me. We wish him the best on his upcoming " new" Pipe Making Trade School. I'm sure it will be a great success.
Pipe Makers Emporium was honored by a visit from one of our international customers,
Rainer Barbi, from Germany

Rainer Barbi is Germany's best known Pipe Maker and is no doubt one of the very best pipe makers in the world today. He has perfected his art and technical skills in pipe making, so that his pipes are renowned for their smoking qualities, precision engineering and superb finishes. Rainer has been honored with prestigious awards both in the USA and Europe. He's also well known for his many articles, written on the art of pipe making and as an expert in briar.
Pipe Makers Emporium would like to thank Rainer for taking the time to visit our facility and for spending a day at Paul Hildebrand's workshop with several of Arizona's pipe makers (the Spit and Whittle Club). Everyone enjoyed meeting him and had a great time sharing knowledge and friendship.
During his visit, Rainer had the opportunity to experience some of the wonderful nature Arizona has to offer. He visited Sedona, which is a few hours north of Phoenix. Sedona is known for its beautiful red rock canyons for which our newest red orange Ebonite received its name.
In Sedona
Also Rainer traveled a few hours south of Phoenix to Tucson and the Saguaro National Park, where our Cactus Green rod got its name.
In Tucson
Since Rainer grew up loving American Westerns and John Wayne, he couldn't resist making a stop in Tombstone.
In Tombstone
Before Rainer left, he presented to Paul a handcrafted Rainer Barbi pipe to donate to one of our lucky customers. During the months of March, April and May, for each order you place, you will have a chance to win this special gift. We will draw the lucky winner on June 1st. To view a photo of the pipe, visit our website at www.pipemakers.org Good luck to each of you!
Thank you for letting me share with you our visit with our special guest; and, Rainer, thank you once again for your generous.

WITH PIPE AND BOOK
With pipe and book at close of day,
Oh, what is sweeter, mortal say?
It matters not what book on knee,
Old Izaak or the Odyssey,
It matters not meerschaum or clay.
And though ones's eyes will dream astray,
And lips forget to sue or sway,
It is "enough to merely be"
With Pipe and Book.
What though our modern skies be gray,
As bards aver, I will not pray
For "soothing death" to succor me,
But ask this much, O Fate, of thee,
A little longer yet to stay
With Pipe and Book.
