Happy 92nd Birthday LWV: Celebrate Feb.16!

 

Bring a friend and an appetizer and join us to celebrate tSheyl Loveladyhe League's 92nd birthday 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb.16 at The Sophian Plaza,1500 S. Frisco.

Sheryl Lovelady, director, Women's Leadership Institute at OU's Carl Albert Congressional Research and Studies Center, will talk about the dearth of women in elective office and why it matters. We'll also have a "Dress for Electoral Success" style show with hints on how to dress for each event on the campaign trail - from knocking on doors to meet the voters to the inaugural ball.

Oklahoma House District 71 - Special Election Primary Debate on Feb. 6th

The League is sponsoring a primary candidate forum for the House District 71 special election from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Mon., Feb. 6 at Wright ElVote Smart!ementary School, 1110 E. 45th Pl. The primary is Tues., Feb. 14. Two Democratic and five Republican candidates will be on the ballot.

 

HD71 encompasses Brookside, running from 21st to 81st streets south between the Arkansas River and Lewis Avenue. The seat has been vacant since December when Dan Sullivan resigned to become Chief Executive Officer of the Grand River Dam Authority.

February Unit Meetings: Privatize What?!  

The February Unit meetings will focus on what municipal services or assets should never be privatized. Materialgovernment is closeds will include the executive summary of the KPMG study recently commissioned by the City of Tulsa as well as relevant excerpts from a research paper on privatization prepared for the Florida State Legislature.

Stillwater League Annual Dinner Features Oklahoma Water Resources Expert

The Stillwater League is holding its annual dinner Wed., Feb. 15.
Tickets are $20. We're invited!

 

Barney Austin, director of hydrologic services with INTERA, a geosciences firm working with the Choctaw Nation, will speak on "Challenges for Oklahoma Water Resources."

Want to know the name of Mayor Bartlett's new 28-year-old Chief of Staff? Maybe you want to send a message to your state senator but don't have a current e-mail address. What you need is our 2012 Directory of Government Officials.

 

One of the Tulsa League's most-requested publications, the Directory has contact information for Tulsa city councilors, Tulsa County officials, Oklahoma government officials and national offices, as well as information on voter registration, voter ID and voting. The new edition will be available Feb. 1.

 

New Voting Machines Unveiled

 

The Tulsa County Election Board recently unveiled new high-tech voting machines with an open house for voters to test the Hart International devices.

Tulsa League Board Vice President Gloria Caldwell checked out the long-promised technology and reports that voters should be pleased.

Exit Pollster


Super Tuesday is on March 6 when 10 states will hold either primaries or caucuses to help decide the GOP nominee for president.
