Greetings:

As we enter another week marked with the promise of unseasonably warm weather and glimpses of the sun, remember to mark your calendar for our March General Meeting on Thursday, March 4th (yes, it is the 4th) from 5:30-7:00 pm at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at 6309 S Wilson Place (behind Cozy's).

Our program consists of a panel of several of our local nonprofit organizations speaking on their programs, the difference they are making in our community, and the ways we can best partner with them to create and maintain a vibrant Clinton. There will also be time for networking, eating, and Q&A.  The following organizations have confirmed their participation: Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the emerging Clinton Jobs Program, Friends of Friends, Good Cheer, Helping Hand, Kids First, Opportunity Council, Readiness To Learn, Saratoga Community Housing, South Whidbey Commons, South Whidbey Youth Connection, Whidbey Watersheds, and WISH. You would be hard-pressed to find a more robust group of community service organizations under one roof! Additional details are listed below.

And in case your evening isn't full enough, after the Chamber meeting you can meander on over to the Community Hall to participate in the last part of the second meeting of the Glendale Creek Forum, which runs from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

As this beautiful weather turns our thoughts to spring cleaning, don't forget that the Clinton Progressive Associations's annual rummage sale will be coming up the end of the month.  Your gently used discards can be a great source of revenue for their continuing efforts to maintain and improve our Clinton Community Hall.

Please remember to let us know of any special offers or promotions you have going at your business so next week you'll see YOUR NAME here! It's just one more way that we can work together helping Clinton residents and businesses support one another.

And...have a great week!

Sherryl Christie-Bierschenk, Chairperson

A local group has gotten together to give everyone an opportunity to say "Farewell" to Lynae Slinden as she embarks on her new adventure with the Peace Corps.

Many of you have asked if you can bring anything to the party for Lynae. Here is the answer:
Your hosts will be cooking up one great wonderful hot UKRAINIAN soup. We will also provide the bread and we're getting one very big CAKE. So if you want to bring anything, we are asking you to limit yourselves to appetizers.  We will also supply beer, wine and water.  If these beverages do not suit, then, yes, bring your own beverage.
Also, if you have cards or messages of any kind you want to leave for Lynae, we will have a bowl at the entrance to the Hall for these kinds of things.

Clinton Water Forum - Saturday, March 13, 2010

The Clinton Progressive Association is presenting a free forum on water issues affecting wells and septic systems in Clinton, the state of South Whidbey's groundwater, and the effects of pollution on personal and environmental health and on Puget Sound. The forum takes place on Saturday, March 13 from 9:00am to 4:00pm at Clinton Community Hall, Hwy 525 and Central Avenue.

Learn practical tips from presentations, workshops, displays and discussions with local and regional water quality practitioners. All participants will be entered in a drawing to participate in an afternoon expedition aboard the Service, Education & Adventure program vessel Indigo to learn more about the shoreline surrounding Clinton.  SEA is partnering with the Island County Eco-Net to sponsor this and a series of local expeditions.  To learn more about SEA go to their website at www.serviceeducationadventure.org.

"Water is the basis of all life," says forum organizer, Carol Flax. "We are surrounded by it here on Whidbey Island - we drink it, cook with it, keep our gardens and farms alive with it, bathe in it and play in it. We cannot survive without it. Yet so many of us mindlessly pollute it - we don't intend to, we act out of ignorance or just don't pay attention to the consequences of our actions. This not only affects the health of our environment, it affects the health of each of us who lives here. This forum will feature a number of fascinating and informative presentations as well as providing practical, easy actions that we can all take to make a difference."

This is a wonderful opportunity for all South Whidbey residents to learn from local experts and discuss issues about water on Whidbey that affect them directly.
Nancy Snow will be the keynote speaker and her presentation is called "Water: What's in it (for us)?".

Presenters include:
Janet Hall Waste Wise Coordinator, WSU Island County Extension
Aaron J. Henderson Environmental Health Director, Island County Public Health
Maury Hood Clinton Water District Commissioner and Immediate Past President of the Washington Association of Sewer & Water Districts
Doug Kelly Hydrogeologist, Pacific Groundwater Group
Don Lee Co-chair of Island County Water Resources Advisory Committee
Anza Muenchow President of South Whidbey Tilth, co-manager of Maha Farm CSA, organic food growing and nutrition educator
Nancy Snow  Research & Communications Specialist, Collaborative on Health and the Environment
Todd Zackey - Coastal Geographer, Tulalip Tribes Natural & Cultural Resources Dept
(educator on the SEA expedition)

There will be displays and information from:
Island County Environmental Health, Orca Network, People for Puget Sound, Service Education and Adventure (SEA), South Whidbey Tilth, Transition Whidbey, Whidbey Island Conservation District, Whidbey Watershed Stewards, and others.

Following the keynote speaker and the water issues panel, workshop-format sessions will be held on rain gardens for safe handling of stormwater, making compost as a fertilizer and herbicide alternative, and making a Clean & Simple cleaning bucket to take home.

Registration opens at 8:30 am at the event, but space is limited, so advance reservations are highly recommended. All presentations are free thanks to a grant from Puget Sound Partnership. The Clean & Simple cleaning bucket workshop is offered at half price, $7.50. Pre-registration for that workshop is necessary so that materials can be purchased ahead of time.

Lunch will be provided by Whidbey Island Nourishes. WIN is a non-profit, volunteer organization committed to providing nutritious meals on non-school days for children in need on South Whidbey. Lunches include a meat and cheese sandwich, string cheese, fresh fruit, veggie sticks, yogurt and home baked treat - plenty for lunch and a snack! Cost is $6.00/ea and all profits go to WIN. Content Strategy for Social Media Success - April 29

On April 29, one of the leading experts in social media and content marketing, Joe Pulizzi, founder of Junta42.com, is coming to Langley to co-facilitate with Russell Sparkman of Fusionspark Media a workshop called "Content Strategy for Social Media Success."

Joe is the author of Get Content, Get Customers: Turn Prospects into Buyers with Content Marketing, and is a featured speaker at the top conferences related to New Media marketing. His book ranks #15 in its category of marketing books on Amazon, out of a total of 100 books.

This workshop is an intensive one-day workshop, limited to only 12 participants. As of this writing, there are 9 seats available, and we just started promoting this online and by word-of-mouth one week ago.

Each participant will walk away with an actionable content strategy, providing them with specific editorial direction and content tactics for "thinking and acting like a publisher" as a critical component of their social media strategy. Joe and Russell will lead the group's discussion, focusing one-at-a-time on each member's business to come up with their content strategy. Each participant will be asked to prepare ahead by filling out a special survey about their business, in the weeks prior to the event.

Included in the tuition is a copy of Joe's book, Get Content, Get Customers, a catered lunch, a post-workshop wine and cheese social hour and a one-hour, post-workshop follow up phone consultation.

Tuition is $650 for Early Bird Registration; $750 for registration after March 31.

Comparatively, a business would pay thousands of dollars, and take weeks, to get the same level of tailored content strategy that we will provide in a day.

The Workshop is the first official scheduled event of the Langley Center for New Media, which opens in Langley in March.
