Greetings:

Wow, there is a lot going on these days as evidenced by the long list of items in this newsletter. In addition...
  • Lakeside Bible Camp is planning to build a climbing wall in honor of one of its most popular counselors, Luke Gullberg, who died on Mt. Hood last month. Donations can be made through their website Lakeside Bible Camp
  • WA State Transportation Commission launches FROG (Ferry Riders Opinion Group) to give riders a voice to the Commission, the governor, and the Legislature. You can fill out a survey on the ferry during Jan or go to their website
  • Donate your new or gently used athletic shoes and sandals to Shoes for Africa to help limit the spread of parasitic infections among the people of Senegal, which prevent them from working and going to school. From Jan 25 to Feb 5 there will be bins in the Whidbey schools and The Clyde Theatre. Contact Kelly Henriot for more info 321-5712...and it would be helpful to add a dollar to help with the shipping!
  • There are lots of donations going to Haiti....please make sure yours go through reputable organizations with low or no overhead. Many cell carriers, for example, take a cut. So check the fine print before you give!

Reminder on other Clinton-related issues:
  • Beautify Clinton--Bob Craven, of Craven Insurance is interested in working with some other folks on a "beautify Clinton" effort. Do you want to join him? 360-341-7200 orbcraven@craveninsurance.com
  • Future Search Visioning process for Clinton has started with the formation of an initial 15 person steering committee. We'll keep you posted, and please let us know if you're interested in participating in some way.

Enjoy the week!

Parking in Mukilteo--Spread the word!

Duane Parrish is the Mukilteo business man planning to create a monthly commuter parking lot on the Speedway. Despite numerous efforts at publicity he has only received 60 reservations so far and is questioning the demand for his proposed facility. We know that affordable commuter parking is a big issue for our community. Commissioner Price-Johnson does not know of any other projects currently being planned to address this need. If you have ideas for spreading the word to interested parties, please contact him via his website:http://www.mukilteoparking.com/ or cell phone 425-870-1876.  This project is on the Mukilteo City Council agenda for Feb. 1st and he needs to determine if this will be a viable plan by then.

Further information
South Whidbey Co-op Pre-School - An appeal for support

My name is Jenny Zisette.  I am 15 and a sophomore at South Whidbey High School.  But, my first school was the South Whidbey Co-op Preschool.  My family moved to the island 11 years ago and my brother, sister and I all attended the Co-op.  My mom is currently one of the parent educators, along with Mully Mullally. The Co-op had, and still has, a very strong impact on my life.  The Co-op has been in operation for 41 years and has served more than 1000 families.  This year the Co-op, like many other non-profit organizations, has handed out more scholarships than ever before.  Their budget has been stretched to it's limit.  In order for the Co-op to stay open for the rest of the year, and continue serving the families that are enrolled, they need to raise $7,000.

The preschool will be holding a benefit fundraiser on January 30th at Whidbey Children's Theatre. This will include a children's show at 2:00pm, and an adult show at 7:30pm.  I am actively a part of Whidbey Children's Theatre, and acting is my main hobby.  So, fellow alumni/ae and other community members are putting on a show for the South Whidbey Co-op.

We need YOUR help:)  There are many ways you can help.

 1.  Come Perform with us. Just reply to me or Terri and we will sign you up for a spot in the show.   Alumni/ae and their friends are all more than welcome. If you can sing, dance, recite poetry, juggle or play an instruments, please join us. The sky's the limit.

2.  Make a donation:  Send your donation to PO Box 713, Langley, WA 98260.

3.  Forward this email on to other alumni/ae, or others who you think would be interested or willing to help.

4.   Shop online with One Cause

5.  Simply Come To The Show:  Tickets will be $10 for the 2pm show and $15 for the evening show.

6.  If you are feeling very generous, you can be one of the few community members to provide a matching grant for a portion of the evening.  You could match our concession sales, our auction sales, our ticket sales, or any portion of the evening you would like. Please contact Terri Hawkins or call 579-3045 if you are interested.

There will be auction items and student art to purchase at the show as well.  I know the Co-op has made a difference in my life, and I hope to see it around to make a difference for years to come.

Thank You
Jenny Zisette

Matching Gift Challenge at Whidbey Institute

We're writing to let everyone know about an exciting matching gift challenge from two Institute supporters. They are calling upon all of you who walk our trails, use our facilities, come to events, stay for retreats, or who moved to the Island because of the Whidbey Institute to step up to support the Institute at a new level.

The Challenge: They will match 100% of any gift amount you give to Whidbey Institute between
Dec. 15, 2009 and Jan. 31, 2010 -up to a total of $10,000! All first-time gifts will be matched in full. Dollar for dollar, you will double your own gift! They are doing this because:

Your participation will make sure this happens; AND allow us to protect this beautiful land for our children and grandchildren. If we don't do it, who will hold this space for the next generation?

Space limited. $45 for the day.

Editor's Note - As someone who has has the experience of First Monday, I cannot recommend it highly enough.  It's no sandy beach with bright sunshine, it's better.  It is truly a vacation from everyday life.  It is a time to get very quiet and to focus on thinking very clearly and peacefully.  The Whidbey Institute staff and grounds offer a sacred and centering environment to let your mind and spirit wander in peace - even if that means just an afternoon snooze in a quiet cottage. If you can't make it this month, do yourself a favor, make a reservation now for whatever first Monday you are available. Give yourself the day of peace, tranquility and beauty that you want ...and need. nr

Volunteers, donors, and staff are invited to attend Good Cheer's Annual Meeting on Wednesday, February 3rd at 5:30 p.m. at Clinton Community Hall. packaging.

Day Two will be led by Judy Walden, a nationally known rural tourism
consultant, who will take us through a fast paced,

Reclamation of Self - March 4 - 7, 2010

The Reclamation of Self with Sheila Belanger, M.A.

Midlife is a journey of reclamation. As a child and young adult, a woman creates identities that enable her to survive and to fit into family and culture. The midlife passage (between the late 30's and early 60's) calls her to release versions of self that she has outgrown and to reclaim her authentic self. Come gather with other women to explore, honor and celebrate this tumultuous and potent life phase. This experiential retreat includes the wisdom of astrological midlife cycles; solo time in nature; creative processes; ceremonial circle; shamanic journeys; Soulcraft practices; a purification sauna; a Labyrinth meditation and drumming and dancing. No previous background in astrology or shamanic journeys required.
Sheila Belanger, M.A. is an inspiring astrologer, shamanic mentor and wilderness guide. She holds a Master's Degree in Transpersonal Psychology and has 25 years experience as a counseling astrologer. Sheila carries an archetypal and shamanic perspective on astrology and specializes in the midlife journey. Her presentations are guided by humor, heart, and deep reverence for our shared interconnectedness.

5:00 PM Thursday-4:00 PM Sunday, March 4-7, 2010
Fee: $495 (Some partial scholarship and work exchange positions are available).
