Yikes....

Nancy had this newsletter ready to go, awaiting a comment or two from me, and I dropped the ball. Great way to start the new year!? Many apologies for the tardiness...especially considering our morning meeting early tomorrow (see below for details).

Also tomorrow is a call-in meeting with Representative Norma Smith at 7 pm (details below).

I hope to see you in the morning!

Cheers,

Sherryl

Clinton Chamber of Commerce Member's Meeting
Thursday, January 7th at 7:30 AM

Start the New Year off right with a great BREAKFAST, informative conversation and networking with our business community members.  January's Clinton Chamber meeting will be a morning meeting staring at 7:30 AM at Speedboat Pizza. Jeff will be putting on the coffee and cooking up what promises to be a very tasty (and filling!) start to your day.

Don Rowan, Financial Advisor of Clinton Edward Jones will be speaking about how "Retirement can be less taxing".
Community Call with State Representative Norma Smith
Thursday, January 7th from 7 - 8 pm

Rep. Norma Smith, R-Clinton, will host a 10th Legislative District telephone town hall meeting Thursday, Jan. 7, from 7 to 8 p.m. Residents around the district are invited to participate in the call.  This telephone forum allows 10th District residents to ask questions and learn more about 2010 legislative agenda, issues Rep.

Constituents can call in toll-free at 1-877-229-8493, then enter PIN 14881. The program works much like a call-in radio show, where participants ask questions of Smith during the hour.  "After months of meeting with residents throughout the district and hearing about the many challenges families and employers face, I decided to organize another community call to get the latest thoughts from constituents on taxes, the budget and anything else that is on their minds prior to the start of the legislative session," Smith said. "Based on feedback from previous calls, the format is convenient for busy families and individuals that simply don't have the time to travel to my in-person meetings."
The topics for the call are dictated by constituent questions, Smith noted. However, she will give a brief update on the state budget and the issues she will be working on during the legislative session, including her pro-jobs agenda, then answer questions from 10th District residents.

"I welcome any and all legislative questions," Smith said. "If I don't have the answer, I will find the information and follow up with constituents. Since I am not sending out a printed pre-session newsletter due to budget concerns, I want to make sure everyone knows I am accessible and able to assist constituents as needed."
The 2010 legislative session begins Jan. 11 and is slated to last 60 days.
Constituents who cannot participate on the call, but have questions or ideas, can contact Smith directly at (360) 786-7884, toll-free at 1-800-562-6000 or via e-mail at Smith.Norma@leg.wa.gov

Matching Gift Challenge at Whidbey Institute

We're writing to let everyone know about an exciting matching gift challenge from two Institute supporters. They are calling upon all of you who walk our trails, use our facilities, come to events, stay for retreats, or who moved to the Island because of the Whidbey Institute to step up to support the Institute at a new level.

The Challenge: They will match 100% of any gift amount you give to Whidbey Institute between
Dec. 15, 2009 and Jan. 31, 2010 -up to a total of $10,000! All first-time gifts will be matched in full. Dollar for dollar, you will double your own gift! They are doing this because:
"We believe in the Whidbey Institute as a place of healing, inspiration, and renewal for the Greater Seattle community and also as a beacon of light for communities throughout the world who are searching for models of sustainable living. We feel that the Whidbey Institute is poised on the threshold of a whole new incarnation of its almost 40 year commitment to nature, spirit, and the human future. It is opening to an amazing new vision: to be a center of excellence for gathering and disseminating the wisdom and best practices of the most exciting leaders in the environmental and social transformation movement."

Your participation will make sure this happens; AND allow us to protect this beautiful land for our children and grandchildren. If we don't do it, who will hold this space for the next generation?

So if you value the work of the Whidbey Institute-work dedicated to personal renewal, kinship with the Earth, the cultivation of new, more adequate patterns of cultural and environmental sustainability, and leadership formation to meet the challenges of our times, this is your time to step up too.

With all of us helping, we can actualize the potential of the Whidbey Institute at Chinook! Please be as generous as you can.
