Happy December!
We have a few events coming up this week that you should know about-- - The web page workshop is this Thursday, in lieu of our general member meeting. You will leave the workshop with a complete webpage and you will know how to change it whenever you choose thereafter! See below for details.
- Help celebrate the 1st annual lighting of the live Christmas tree at the Clinton Community Hall on Saturday, December 5th at 5 pm. This is an informal community event. We will sing a few carols, sip some hot cider, and share some holiday cheer. Please contact us if you want to help--info@discoverclintonwa.com
- Also this Saturday, several businesses in downtown Clinton are having special holiday events--Island Framery is introducing new owners (see below), Good Cheer is hosting Peppermint Saturday, Jim's Hardware and Abbey Carpets will have goodies. Do you want to join the fun? Let us know if you are doing something special on Saturday and we'll send out a special email on Wednesday with all the buzz. And contact Allison Tapert at the Record (atapert@southwhidbeyrecord.com) by noon today if you want an ad in our special section in Wednesday's paper.

Get out your calendar and mark this date. Thursday, December 3rd from 6 PM to 9 PM at South Whidbey High School.
Web designer Russell Sparkman assisted by South Whidbey High School computer students will be providing training on web site design to Clinton Chamber of Commerce members on this special evening. You will leave with your web page up and running!
Encourage your friends to join the Chamber and they will also be included in this special training session.
There is no cost to Chamber members for this important training. Start the Holiday season and the New Year 2010 with the power of the Internet working for you and your business!

| Festival of Trees - Saturday, December 5th, 5:30 PM
Festival of Trees tickets are on sale
A Whidbey Island holiday tradition returns to South Whidbey for the fifth year, as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County presents its annual Festival of Trees Gala and Auction. This year's festival will be held Dec. 5, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Useless Bay Golf & Country Club in Freeland. Tickets are $85 per person. This entertaining formal event, featuring uniquely decorated trees and wreaths for auction, benefits children in the community allowing them to be matched in one-to-one relationships with positive role-models through the nonprofit organization.

Other Festival of Tree events include the public tree and wreath viewing from 1 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the Useless Bay Golf & Country Club in Freeland.

Edward Jones Coffee Talk - Wednesday, December 9th at 9AM
The next meeting of the Edward Jones Coffee Club is planned for Wednesday, December 9th at 9 AM. Clinton Financial Advisor Don Rowan will guide investors through an "End-of-Year Check List" that can help individuals become better prepared for retirement. Current events and the economy will also be discussed in a relaxed, informal setting. Coffee Club meets the second Wednesday of each month at 9:00 am in the Backroom of the Island Coffee House in Langley. Plus, the coffee's on Rowan! For more information, call 341-4556.

| Whidbey Institute "First Week Programs" begin Tuesday, December 1st
Our First Week Programs begin this Tuesday, December 1st, with Mediation Open House in the Sanctuary and end Monday Dec 7th with First Monday.
Donations to programs other than First Monday benefit the Sanctuary.
Tuesday Dec 1 Meditation Open House-The 1st Tuesday of every month 7-8:30pm, the Sanctuary Wednesday Dec 2 Sacred Movement-First Wednesday of every month 9:30am 10:30am the Sanctuary December Feature: Simon Leon - Empty Mind Taichi Come move in the sacred space of the Sanctuary. Donations encouraged. Whidbey Institute would like to express deep gratitude to the practitioners for the donation of their time to support the care of this beloved space. Thursday Dec 3 Sacred Music Joe Arnold and Friends First Thursday of every month Sanctuary 7:00pm - 8:30pm Contemplative Native American flute music with which to invoke your personal journey. Friday Dec 4 Taize in the Sanctuary First Friday of every month 7 p.m. First Monday Supported Personal Retreat - Dec 7th 8:30am-5:00pm Waiting in the Dark, with Cathy Whitmire movement and artistic expression, and nothing you have to do. Cathy Whitmire is a Quaker spiritual guide, an interfaith chaplain, pastoral counselor and author of Plain Living and Practicing Peace. Dianne Shiner, former executive director of the Whidbey Institute at Chinook, will share the meditative movement of Shibashi-a form of Qigong-in the meadow (weather permitting!). It is a lovely, peaceful and earth-imaged practice, perfect for those whose monkey minds wander when in prayer/meditation. First Monday Fee: $45 includes lunch.
