Greetings:
A question and a few reminders--
- What do you think should be done with the concrete pad on Hwy 525 and Campbell? This is the slab that was originally poured to support the beloved Welcome to Whidbey sign when it was going to be moved. Evidently, there has been a proposal submitted to the Port of SW Whidbey for funds to put a sign promoting Langley on that pad. My inclination is to ask the Port to hold off, so that Clinton voices can be heard. What is your preference...please let us know!
- Would you like to be part of a Clinton Holiday Festival on Sat, Dec. 5th? Several shop owners in downtown Clinton are gearing up and the Progressive Association is willing to do their tree lighting that evening. Lynae Slinden, at Island Framery, initiated this event as an expansion of an open house she is doing with music and goodies. Let us know if you would like to be part of a bigger Clinton event.
- We list member events and/or specials in this newsletter and on the website, please let us know if you have something coming up!
- The scheduling nightmare continues for the long-awaited Web workshops. We are now discussing the first week in December. We should have a decision in the next day or so and will let you know right away.
Here's to staying healthy, warm, and dry!

| Whidbey Institute "After Thanksgiving Hands on Holiday Workshops"
Tradition is a guide not a jailer. - W. Somerset Maugham
After Thanksgiving Hands on Holiday Workshops A 'Green Friday & Saturday' alternative to mass merchant 'Black Friday' holiday shopping honoring the Native Traditions We call this two day event "Green Friday" in response to what is known as "Black Friday" promoting off island, mass merchant Holiday shopping. Let's bring back the idealism of local community creative process and enhance our holiday through self-expression and creativity from the heart, hands and spirit with creative workshops that honor Native American and other Global Native Traditions. Come learn how to make and play a Native American flute, make a drum, weave a basket or try your hand at Native American bead work. Play didgeridoo and experience journaling classes along with contemplative experiential walks on the lands of Chinook. See attached flyer for details. After a wondrous day of creation, plan to spend Friday evening dancing to Marimba featuring Nzira, a local marimba group led by Dana Moffett. Nzira inspires participation with their upbeat high spirited Zimbabwe influenced music. Then settle into the flowing music of Pamela Mortensen featuring her gifted Didgeridoo music. Next up will be the gentle and inspiring Native American Flute music and Native African Drumming of Joe Arnold and Wade Wilcox and, finally, the surprise gift you will not want to miss! Stay on Whidbey for Thanksgiving and come to Whidbey Institute for Workshops and Walks all designed to give a New Taste of Thanksgiving. Overnight accommodation available for your out of town guest $50/person/night. See attached flyer for program details. Childcare option available for ages 7-12 - children also welcome in the workshops with attending adult. Reply to this email for registration form or contact:

| Festival of Trees - Saturday, December 5th, 5:30 PM
Festival of Trees tickets are on sale
A Whidbey Island holiday tradition returns to South Whidbey for the fifth year, as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County presents its annual Festival of Trees Gala and Auction. This year's festival will be held Dec. 5, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Useless Bay Golf & Country Club in Freeland. Tickets are $85 per person. This entertaining formal event, featuring uniquely decorated trees and wreaths for auction, benefits children in the community allowing them to be matched in one-to-one relationships with positive role-models through the nonprofit organization.
Nationally, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been the leader in one-to-one mentoring for more than 100 years. On Whidbey Island, the organization has more than 11 years with proven success in creating positive friendships that benefit children, volunteers, families, schools and our entire community. For years, dedicated tree decorators have created unique styles, which have continued to bring joy to the buyers for years to come. The Festivals of Trees is a community celebration designed to brighten the holiday season while brightening the futures of children, organizers said. All funds go directly to children's services.
To reserve your tickets now, contact Big Brother Big Sisters of Island County at 360-279-0644 or bbbs@whidbey.net.
Other Festival of Tree events include the public tree and wreath viewing from 1 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the Useless Bay Golf & Country Club in Freeland.
