Greetings!
As our world moves at a faster pace everyday, it becomes
even more inspiring to see people who are committed to preserving age-old
crafts.
Last month we took a tour of the Heath Ceramics studio in
Sausalito, CA. It was exciting to see the great care
and handwork that goes into each piece.
(See photos below). Their commitment to the hand processes and vision that
founder Edith Heath put in place is a testament to the company's dedication.
We also attended the Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon and we
were blown away by Jean Well's quilt (shown here) and her new book on color, Intuitive
Color & Design. Her dedication to the traditional craft of quilting with a contemporary twist, was a great surprise for
two non-quilters.
Both Heath Ceramics and Jean Wells are a good reminder to us
to embrace the new economy, slow down and get back to what is important.
In this issue of Colorlab, we are celebrating being the
first paint company to receive the much stricter Green Seal 2008
certification! We are also
celebrating YOLO Colorhouse on the exterior of Haas School of Business at UC
Berkeley and on the exteriors of two Northwest garden sheds. Here's to slowing down and appreciating
the simple things.

YOLO Colorhouse Leads New Era in Environmental Paints
The first to be certified against Green Seal's updated, more stringent standard
We were thrilled to learn from Green Seal that we are the
first paint company to qualify for Green Seal's new 2008 strict standards (GS
11 2008).
The entire YOLO
Colorhouse line of interior and exterior latex paint qualifies under the new GS
11 2008. By adjusting the levels of VOCs allowed in base paint and including
criteria for colorants, the new standard ensures that even a heavily tinted
paint will still contain minimum VOCs. YOLO Colorhouse paint was previously
certified under the GS-11 environmental standard for Paints, but we are now the
first to achieve this new leadership level of certification under the recently
revised Green Seal GS 11 standard for Paint and Coatings, revised in May of
2008.
The newly certified YOLO
Colorhouse paints work harder to protect indoor air quality, contain less
hazardous chemicals, reduce VOC (volatile organic compound) levels and expand
consumer education. All YOLO Colorhouse coatings are completely free of
carcinogens, formaldehyde, phthalates, hazardous air pollutants and ozone
depleting compounds.
"YOLO Colorhouse has demonstrated that the challenges
posed in the revised standard can be met," said Dr. Arthur Weissman, president
and CEO of Green Seal. "We are proud to put our mark on such innovative and
environmentally responsible products."
There are more than 1,000
specified chemical compounds found in many paints that are now prohibited by
the new GS-11 2008 certification. YOLO Colorhouse's formula passed this
stringent test verifying the purity of our formula.
