Cargo, an importer of handpicked antiques & artifacts, knows how to use Petal colors!

Traveling through Cargo is a true color adventure, one of the most exciting places to experience the world of color in all its glory.  With Merril and Blackburn, there is never a dull moment at Cargo, the visual experience is always changing.  Check it out at www.cargoinc.com or visit their 20,000 + sq. ft. warehouse in Portland's Pearl district, 380 NW 13th.

Greetings!

Maude
When we step away from our focus at YOLO Colorhouse, we are always re-energized by what other folks out there are doing.  In early February, we were honored to be invited as Change Agents in Residents at Bainbridge Graduate Institute.  What a spectacular community focused on teaching sustainable business.  The campus itself is set on beautiful Bainbridge Island in the Puget Sound, all the MBA classes are taught with sustainability, environmental and social responsibility running through every course.  A unique, timely and inspiring program!

In late February, we spent the weekend at the Coast Cabins in Manzanita, our favorite beach town on the Oregon coast and a great beach for dogs!  After a satisfying day on the beach, Maude, our black and white mascot of color relinquished to the cancer she fought for four years.   We will miss Maude so much.  She knew how to live for the moment and will continue to remind us to keep living for RIGHT NOW.  Our animal friends have a lot to teach us about living!

We have been lucky to be involved in some exciting projects at YOLO Colorhouse, like the LEED Habitat for Humanity house where got to lift a brush and roller again. (see below). It's always good to get back to painting!

First Habitat for Humanity in Oregon to earn LEED for Home Silver Rating

Architects, Scott Mooney and David Posada, were selected to design the Northeast Portland duplex after winning the Cascadia Region Green Building Council's Natural Talent Design Competition.

In addition to YOLO Colorhouse 0 VOC paint, the house sits on an east-west axis allowing daylight to enter the spaces, both houses have rainwater collection for irrigation, reclaimed materials for hardscaping, efficient wood use in framing, FSC-certified wood, high efficiency operable windows, radiant floor heating, low flow fixtures and energy star appliances.

YOLO Colorhouse was honored to be a part of Habitat for Humanity's newest Portland home both with the paint donation and painting contributions.  The YOLO crew donned their painter's whites and volunteered to paint the 1,100 square foot home that will house a single mom, her two kids and her grandmother in North East Portland.  YOLO founders, Virginia and Janie chose colors to create warm and welcoming spaces for both families.  Some of the colors include:  Grain .04 in the halls; Clay .04 in the kitchen; and Leaf .02 in the living room. We can't wait to meet the family in person when the project is completed!  To learn more about the project, click here.

Gort Cloud bookThe Gort Cloud
By Richard Seireeni with Scott Fields

In Richard Seireeni's new book, The Gort Cloud, he profiles 23 green company's brand development and marketing strategies.  The book thoughtfully wades through how companies, who are committed to green business practices, separate themselves from the greenwashing happening in today's market.  Seireeni coins the term  "The Gort Cloud" describing "the vast and largely invisible network of NGOs, trendspotters, advocacy groups, social networks, business alliances, certifying organizations and other members of the green community that have the power to make or break green brands."  The Gort Cloud is a fascinating study of a diverse group of businesses, at different stages, who have tapped into this "invisible network."
