WHO'S WHO @ ERIE
Erie Family Health Center's Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Operations, Iliana Mora, honored with the Geiger Gibson Emerging Leaders Award

Iliana Mora joined the Erie Family Health Center family in June of 2002 as a Development Specialist and assisted in one of Erie's initial community needs assessments - bringing a unique mix of corporate, analytical and academic research skills to the project. From the beginning, Iliana showed a strong commitment and determination in addressing the health care needs of the communities Erie serves. Erie believes health care is a right not a privilege, and since her first days at Erie, Iliana has never wavered in her commitment to drive that belief forward.
It's no surprise Iliana has been honored with the Geiger Gibson Emerging Leaders Award. Since 2007, this award has highlighted and shared with the health center community the accomplishments of a new generation of health center leaders. One or more Emerging Leaders are selected annually by the Program, with the assistance of an advisory group comprised of health center leaders. The key qualities of leadership highlighted by this award are commitment, motivation, professional achievement, and leadership qualities that together further the health center mission. "These young professionals exemplify the finest in community health center leadership," said Jack Geiger, MD, MPH, Arthur C. Logan Professor Emeritus of Community Medicine, City University of New York, and pioneer of the U.S. community health center movement. "Their commitment to excellence is the backbone of the health centers movement."
Iliana has made a significant contribution to Erie's ability to provide the best of health care to those who need it most. Iliana highlights Erie's commitment to the community as the main source of inspiration for her. "There are two reasons I love Erie. I love the people I work with - everyone is extremely talented and committed to the work they do," says Iliana. "I also love the communities Erie serves. I come to the office to work with amazing individuals and to find new and better ways to bring quality services to more people and more communities."

EVENTS @ ERIE
Erie Family Health Center presented Salud and the City on February 24th 2011 at La Salle Power Co.

Erie Family Health Center presented Salud and the City on Thursday, February 24th 2011 at the LaSalle Power Co, hosted by Erie's Junior Board. Specialized cocktails, a silent auction (that included overnight stays in the Ritz Carlton in NYC, Cubs and Bulls tickets, and one of a kind artistic pieces), a raffle for a trip to Mexico and live entertainment from the band South of 80, made the event a night to never forget.
The most meaningful moment for the 200+ guests in attendance was when Luis Leon, the Chair of the Junior Board, directed everyone's attention to the video screen. A brief and impactful video was exhibited where Erie patients described the unique and critical role Erie plays in their lives. Their proclamations of 'I am Erie' reiterated the powerful influence Erie has made in the lives of its community through its combination of innovation, quality and compassionate care.
Erie Family Health Center would like to extend a huge 'thank you' to everyone who helped make Salud and the City such a huge success. Erie's Junior Board members, vendors, sponsors, guests, entertainers, volunteers and staff - you all contributed to the wonderful success of Salud and the City. The event raised over $40,000 which supports all of Erie programs and services and helps Erie Family Health Center fulfill its mission to provide accessible, affordable and high quality health care for those in need.

ERIE HEALTH TIPS Turning the clocks back - why it's important to get quality shut-eye each and every night
Daylight savings time is here - we 'spring forward' the second Sunday in March and 'fall back' the first Sunday in November. For some, it is time to say goodbye to snow and heavy parkas and welcome sunshine and lazy summer days. For others, it's another precious hour of shut eye lost in the daily battle to get a little more sleep.
While this lack of sleep can be more challenging for some than others, any change of schedule can disrupt sleep. In 2002, the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) found that 74% of American adults experience a sleeping problem a few nights a week or more, 39% get less than seven hours of sleep per weeknight, and one out of every three Americans are so tired during the work day that it interferes with their daily activities.
"Sleep time" is not just a way for your body to take a break at the end of the day. Sleep is essential for the body's mental and emotional functioning. Even the occasional lack of sleep can result in greater difficulty concentrating, accomplishing even the smallest of tasks and dealing with trivial irritations. Those that suffer from sleeping disorders - such as sleep apnea - have an increased risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke.
Understanding the importance of drifting off to dreamland is only a start to ensure that you have enough pep in your step. The next question remains: how to make sure that we're getting enough sleep? By reading a few of the tips below, you'll have the tools you need to guarantee a quality night's sleep followed by a productive day.
