The Joy of the Lord
Growing in joy through giving

In an early edition of this Stewardship Update I had raised (and praised) the issue of the the PRIVILEGE that is ours in being called to join in with the LORD of the harvest in the work of building up the church (HIS body) in quality and by the work of evangelism in quantity.

One of the other blessings that comes to us as we practice good stewardship is the JOY of the LORD that HE brings into our lives. Many would say that they cannot practice stewardship because they are either to busy or need all the resources that come to them. But I fail to see the joy they could have in their lives as they live with that mentality. Most live in fear. In reality fear is the opposite of joy.

The book "Fields of Gold" by Andy Stanley gives this idea full discussion in several chapters of the book. We had encouraged you to get and read this good presentation on stewardship when we first entered into the "SHARING HIS VISION" campaign. It deserves your reading.  He presents three insights into stewardship as given by the LORD in sowing and reaping.

1st - The "law of the harvest" applies to our finances.

2nd - Financial giving aligns your life with God's agenda.

3rd - Good service results in good business.

I personally know of a very dedicated couple, newly retired, that have found the joy of the LORD in committing themselves to the practice of increasing their gifts to the Master's work by one percentage each year. They fully understand that ALL they have is HIS and they can get by on less and less each year. But the wonder of it all is they do not live in fear nor suffer want.

He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly BUT he who sows richly will reap richly. This is God's plan all the way, when he invites us to join with him!
