In this issue of the monthly devotional regarding the important issue of stewardship of the believer I want to build upon a thought hinted at by Loring Carpenter and others in their thoughts presented in earlier "Where Your Treasurer Is." I trust you have been able to read each one that has gone out monthly since last June. We can supply a copy if you missed any.
While is it true that stewardship is a responsibility and a way to honor God and fulfill our commitment to HIM, have you ever noticed in Scripture that many writers saw stewardship also as a privilege. David praised the Lord for selecting him out from his brethren. Joseph likewise suffered through the trials of Egypt testifying with gratitude to his selection. Abraham spoke often to the truth that God had chosen him and thus blessed the name of the Lord. Moses as well! And certainly Solomon is his prayer at the dedication of the temple referred again and again to the high favor that God had bestowed upon him. Mary in her magnificat rejoiced in her selection.
Truly it is a privilege to be trusted by our loving Heavenly Father with the wherewithal to meet our own needs and granted even more to have sufficient to give to those in need of physical necessities. Note that He shares with us so we can in essence give back to him. Matt.26:34
Note also the privilege to be trusted by HIM to invest that granted unto us in ways that result in others finding HIM as LORD and Savior. The parable of the faithful servant results in those most desirable words, "Well done thou good and faithful servant"
Someone has spoken wisely in saying "You can't take it with you BUT you can send it ahead." But there is yet another way that shows that Stewardship is truly a privilege. God asks us to come along side HIM in his reaching out to a lost world. One of the many gifts of the Spirit is the gift of giving. Let this thought sink deeply into the recesses of your heart, soul and mind. We are called and equipped to be Co-laborers with the ETERNAL ONE by His choice. He invites us and then supplies us with all the resources that he knows we need. First we are to reach out to a lost and dying world and second to his body, the church, so as to build up one another in the faith. Talents take on many shapes and forms but they always are given to bring back Praises to the Giver! What a privilege!!!
Our stewardship in the Comprehensive Campaign of the CCCC is explicitly directed to these goals. Calling out the lost and equipping the saints. "My soul does magnify the LORD!"
