Where is your treasure? I am reminded of a cartoon I saw several years ago that showed in the first of two frames a wealthy man, laying in bed dying, surrounded by servants and wealth. The caption reads, "You can't take it with you." The second frame shows the same man sitting up in bed with arms folded in defiance saying, "Then I'm not going!" It's funny because it's ludicrous! The fact is of course, we will all die and when we do we will not take a single material thing with us! So then, where is our treasure? Knowing Almighty God through His Son Jesus Christ IS the greatest treasure of all (Matthew 13:44-46; Philippians 3:7-10), worth so much more than all the fame or fortune this world offers! We believe that, don't we? Are we still astonished that God knows and loves us and through Christ we are blessed to know and love Him for time and forever (I John 3:1, 16)? Because you are reading this article you very likely are connected to the CCCC in some way. I presume then that you very likely agree with what I have just written, because in the CCCC we affirm together the absolute truth and authority of Scripture (II Timothy 3:15-16). Whenever God speaks our earnest desire is to hear and obey Him (James 1:22; Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22)! Amen? Since this is our heart's desire before God surely we would not be so rebellious or foolish as to add a caveat that this does not apply when the things Jesus teaches are hard! Loving and trusting Jesus means we want to obey Him in all things! It means treasuring most what He treasures most, what endures for eternity! Consider carefully these words of Jesus (Matthew 6:19-21). "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." May I encourage you to meditate on these verses? What are you ultimately working for, dreaming about, and investing time, talent and resources in? That is your treasure and where your heart is! Let's treasure most what matters most!
