Holy Cannoli! Tell me it isn't so, Joe.

Help!Your clinic sees Medicare patients in your therapy pool. You follow the rules.
  • You reserve exclusive access;
  • You provide 1:1 care;
  • You prove medical necessity;
  • You show progression.
You bill Medicare using the 97110 code, because aquatic therapy is just therex... in the water, right?

1.8 million reasons you're dead wrong.

Make sure this isn't you. Get more billing tips and tricks by attending ATU's Save My Practice! class in Minneapolis this September.

Are We Asleep at the Wheel? Who's Deciding?

Asleep at the wheel?
Blue Cross/ Blue Shield has no trouble performing your clinical decisions for you. Here are their examples of patients who require SKILLED aquatic therapy.
  • An individual with ARTHRITIS who cannot ambulate on land because of the inability to use an assistive device.
  • An individual who recently had a total hip replacement with weight bearing restrictions who has difficulty following these precautions on land.
  • An individual with Guillain Barré or multiple sclerosis who is too weak to exercise on land.
(They're fine examples; just not inclusive. And notice the argument is heading this way... Aquatic therapy is only for those who CAN'T tolerate services on land.)

A desperate man blogs:
"I recently came close to a job...

I was moved into the final circle only to be told in the 11th hr that I lost out to someone else.

My little family really needed this. I really needed it. My head-a-reeling from the blow and sweat collecting on my brow from the summer heat, there was only one thing to do...."
