Welcome!
I'm back from teaching at Art Unraveled in Arizona, and want to send out a warm hello to all of you who signed up for the newsletter during our week in Phoenix! I've got pictures from the classes I took up on the blog, and pictures from the classes I taught should go up this weekend!
Nothing is so certain as change . . . As I was putting together this note to all of you, I realized that I haven't sent out a newsletter since March! For awhile this Spring and Summer, I had a job that that was taking a lot of my time and energy . . . Now, I'm back to doing art and teaching full-time, and I couldn't be happier!
I'm working feverishly on the projects for my book, Artmaking as Playful Prayer, and have gotten feedback on the text from my first round of test readers - which means lots of edits ahead. I'll be taking pre-orders for the book at several Portland, OR events in October, including Art & Soul, Wordstock, and Portland Open Studios.
I've got a fun class called Matchbox Books coming up in a few weeks that melds micro-shrines with the altered book tradition. Chakra Collage is a new 8-week class that starts October 13th! DIY Lounge, the Portland home for my classes for many years, is also making some changes in the way they offer programming, so the final location for this class has not yet been finalized.
No matter where you are, you can always check in at the Matchbook Blog for inspiration and free DEMOS. Be sure to check out this one on printing with plastic bags! and, I've got this post on my experiments with various pens - including the new refillable alcohol ink pens from Collage - on plexiglass panels!

Free DEMO on the Blog

Printing with Plastic Bags
Every month, I try to offer a free DEMO on the blog for your crafty inspiration! That hasn't happened very consistently this year, but I'm still delighted to offer up this one on printmaking with the urban tumbleweed - plastic bags! Here, you can see how I used the plastic bag print as a background, then collaged cutouts of prints from heat moldable foam on top - and yes, there's a free DEMO on doing that kind of printing, too!
