Founder and President of Baja Dogs, Dhorea Ryon married Javier Sanchez Davalos on April 10, 2010 (3 days before celebrating her 60th birthday) in the beautiful Cathedral in downtown La Paz. Two hundred guests, including Dhorea's son Randall from New York, were in attendance at the reception at La Damiana later that evening. Even though both lived in the same neighborhood and frequented the same stores and restaurants, it took 3 years before Dhorea and Javier would run into each other. 'Love at first sight' is how they and everyone who knows them explains what happened. Dhorea requested donations to Baja Dogs in lieu of gifts and this has raised over 2500 dollars. The money will be used for another tinaco as we currently have to pay for 10,000 litres of water but only have a 5,000 litre storage capacity; more cement dog shelters within each corral and 3 more corrals (12 x 12 fenced areas for the dogs to spend their days before returning to the Palapa to sleep). There were also gifts received from more traditional folks and Javier says all duplicates will be used in the auction at the Festival d'arte in November to benefit the shelter. Thank you to everyone for the gifts and donations. |

Air Transport Update |
As WestJet currently has an embargo (April - Nov) on transporting dogs in cargo, transport north has slowed drastically. We can send the dogs via Alaska Air but at a greater cost and far harder a trip for both dogs and transporters as there are 1 or 2 transfers. Because of this we cannot provide incentives to anyone taking a dog north. We have a group of volunteers in LA who will assist the travellers and they have been a godsend. They will take the dogs from the transporter, walk and water them and return the dogs to the security area in the next terminal. Thank you to Michele, Tory and their group!
Puppies can be easily transported in cabin. If you are a puppy lover and don't mind cuddling for 5 hrs please email Dhorea at bdlp@bajadogslapaz.org.
More direct flights to and from La Paz would really help us in our efforts to transport dogs north. Please sign the WestJet to La Paz petition ... and help us spread the word!

Poisonings are common in La Paz; your neighbor may be mad at you, your dog may bark too much, or a robber may want to rob your home. Sadly, someone entered the refugio and poisoned both Angela and Ruby, a recent mom of 2 pups. Dr Chiapa's hospital did everything possible but too much damage had been done. At this stage all info gathered on the suspect and motive are being kept quiet but even if it is proven, what is a dog's life worth in Mexico? We are now faced with adjusting our budget to include a night watchman at 150 pesos a night. Monthly this will be about $250 usd.

Lost dogs are regularily brought to Baja Dogs refugio. Please help spread the word: if you know someone who has lost their dog, check with us first. Currently we have 3 lost dogs, including this guy who was found 6 blocks behind CCC Colima. |

Because we care, we help. But we can't do it alone.
Baja Dogs receives NO government funding or assistance. Your generous donations and membership fees help us continue to supply food, kennel care and vaccines against deadly diseases like parvo and distemper. They help us rescue dogs in need, and care for those without a voice who are injured, abused and neglected. The best way to help is to make a monthly membership pledge of $10, $25, $50 or $100 ... but any help you can offer is always greatly appreciated.
