Just before Christmas, little Tita was found curled up on a dirty scrap of material in a ditch along the highway. A few feet away, her brother lay dead in the parking lot of local restaurant. Approximately 3 weeks old and about 3 pounds when rescued, she was covered in ticks and fleas, her elbow was badly scraped, her hair was falling out in clumps. She was starving, dehydrated, shivering from the cold, and completely alone.
Tita at last is showing a spark of life, and our hopes are that she will continue to grow strong. She is a sweet and gentle pup who still has a long way to go. Her tiny foot appears to be broken at the ankle, possibly from the same car that killed her brother, leaving them both to suffer.
But her foot was the least of our worries; she needed to be dewormed, bathed frequently in special solutions to kill the ticks and parasites in her tiny body, and given special food, vitamins and minerals to boost her immune system. She is still in isolation but we have moved her into an old donated trailer where it is warmer. Her hair had all fallen out but a new healthy coat is slowly starting to grow back in. We are praying that she will make it; she is so very tiny and fragile. It would be nice to be able to take a break between the arrival of the severely neglected and abused, but no, as I sit here writing this, another little one has been brought in by our worker Mario. It seems a neighbor no longer wanted this puppy as she has 3 large pitbulls she likes better. She locked the puppy outside and did not give her food or water. Skin and bones, this frightened little thing is staring up at me with big fawn like eyes. Her name will be Maria. | |
MINKA is one of many dogs available for adoption on our website . She is a big girl who will make an amazing companion. She is about 9 months old and has a heavy coat, better suited to a cooler climate.
If you are interested in helping us find foster homes in Canada and the US for dogs like Minka, please contact Fern, our Volunteer Coordinator by phone at 612 124 6061 or by email. As our INTERNATIONAL ADOPTIONS COORDINATOR, you will receive emails and leads and will need to correspond with the writers and other rescue groups. Not necessary to live in Baja, but English is a requirement. |

Because we care, we help. But we can't do it alone.
Your generous donations and membership fees help us continue to supply food, kennel care and vaccines against deadly diseases like parvo and distemper. They help us rescue dogs in need, and care for those without a voice who are injured, abused and neglected. Please help in any way you can.
