~ HAPPY TAILS ~

If you're one of the lucky people who've adopted a Baja Dog, please send us photos so we can keep our readers updated on their progress.  Be sure to include the dog's new name, location and a 'Happy Tail' or two about your new family addition!
In Canada, the U.S. and England, many of our Board and Committee members have done volunteer work with other rescue agencies. Working with the dogs of the Baja has been an eye opening education for all of us. Each day we are reminded that our refuge and our education program are so desperately needed. It is almost on a weekly occurrence that we see distemper, parvo, tick infestations, starvation, neglect and abuse.  We hear from children that animals do not have hearts, souls or feelings. Education is the ONLY way to change this mentality. We are seeing changes; we are making a difference.

Linda
  Linda
Linda is a large exotic Alsatian
cross. She was rescued with her 2 pups by Maggie. Due to extreme neglect, we were unable to save one of the pups. Linda has been spayed but will need to be fattened up and vaccinated before leaving the refuge. She will make a great watchdog but is also extremely loving and gentle with those she knows. She has spent her whole life tied with a chain so heavy she could barely lift her head. She deserves a loving home.

Building The Dream

new refuge 5
Progress at the new refuge is slow but steady.  One of our goals for the coming year is to transform this large open air structure (roof with no walls or floors) into a visitor center / education pavilion for school field trips.

There is also a small bodega onsite, intended to serve as our isolation ward, which housed more than 40 dogs for 2 very stressful days during Hurricane Norbert in October.

Our main priority at the moment is installing water and electricity to the property.  Donations of building supplies, labor and money are desperately needed to help us create a safe haven for our ever growing population of 4-legged friends.

Education News
Imagine the pawsibilities!

Baja Dogs is very pleased to welcome our new Volunteer Education Committee members, Salma, Rocio and team Coordinator, Ani Sherab Wangmo, a Marine Biologist, researcher and educator working at CIB (Centro de Investigaciones Biologicos).  The committee classroomis currently working with the Public Education Secretary to develop a program in humane animal treatment and disease identification and prevention.

This is a major step forward for La Paz, and we are very excited about the prospect of educating children on a district wide basis.

Because we care, we help. But we can't do it alone.

If each of you can spare as little as $10 - $25.00 per month we can continue to supply food, kennel care and vaccines against deadly diseases like parvo and distemper.  Your membership fees and donations are only used for providing care, food and medicine for the dogs. To date all construction costs have been paid for privately. The land for the new refuge was donated by Simon and Lorea Turner. All administration - even our website - is provided free by volunteers.

I know these are difficult economic times, but I hope you can find it in your hearts to help us continue our important work here in La Paz.
