Happy Tails
Clem and Dot
Five dogs accompanied me to Vancouver, Canada recently and were adopted into wonderful homes. Watching them explore grass, stairs and the rain was entertaining.  We now have a fantastic Canadian charity to work with and will be returning to Vancouver with more small dogs. First we need to find foster homes in Vancouver as the dogs will only be on display in the adoption center on Saturdays and Sundays.
Paws and Effect
Exciting New Policies, Programs and Priorities

We will be redoing the Baja Dogs website this month. Watch for dramatic changes with much more info. We also promise to update it regularly. There has been so much to do.

This last 2 months has been very trying for the staff. We have had an incredible number of sick and injured dogs brought in and have had to scramble for funds. One disturbing trend we have encountered is angry people demanding we take their puppies. Our focus must continue to be on spay and neuter, education and looking after the very needy and homeless dogs.

We have also started a membership drive. For less than $10.00 a month you can help us care for these helpless dogs!  Look for more membership info on our updated website.

Locally, the staff will be asking for a yearly 250 pesos donation which will entitle you to become a "Padrino de Baja Dogs". As we use our donations to spay and neuter, vaccinate and heal, we will be asking for an adoption fee and a fee for taking in a dog. This fee is waived for members, Padrinos, volunteers , workers and contributors of any kind. Of course in the interest of the dogs, there will be some exceptions made.
Remembering Pita
Pita

Anyone who has ever visited the refuge knew Pita. A year ago last June I found her in a hole in a yard.  She was skin and bones and dehydrated. I asked the owners why she was in the hole and they replied that they didn't want her.

The conversation went on with them finally telling me they wanted her to die. Within minutes she was in my car and off to the refuge.  Normally I am afraid of any dog that appears to have some pit bull in it, but not Pita. Everyone fell in love with her. We were told by the doctor that she had a tumor in her lung yet she grew strong. She loved Temon (our 3 legged, bucktoothed doggie). Two special volunteers took Pita for walks.

We had always hoped Pita would have a special place at the new refuge where she could have more space of her own.  Pita was the first to arrive at the new refuge, but not as we had hoped. She passed this week surrounded by five of us who loved her. She is buried in what will be our cemetery. She had become very sick this last month and had gone blind. May she rest in peace.
How Can You Help?

I have never asked outright for help but if you have ever considered sending us a donation, now is the time.   I personally guarantee, every single cent will go directly to help the dogs. We get no government help and do not have access to the incredible funds that the SPCA and Humane Societies in Canada and the US receive.

You can send your donation through the Paypal links located here and on our website. If you live locally, you can drop the donation at Baja Dogs Clinic in Centenario (across from the new Plaza Centenario) or call for pick up 612 128 8235.   If you live in the US or Canada and prefer to mail a check, please make payable and send to:    Baja Dogs LaPaz Inc , 206 E Bay Blvd., Port Hueneme, California, USA 93041. We are a registered Mexican Charity and waiting for approval on our US registered charity.

Please help if you can. If it's not possible at this time but you enjoy the newsletter, we will continue to email it to you on a monthly basis starting in October.

Thank you for reading and caring, and thank you so much to those who have recently donated or joined our membership.  Your continued support really does make a world of difference.

Sincerely,

Dhorea Ryon
