On Stewardship | |
by the Rev. Dr. Delmer Chilton
Like most pastors who have been at it a while (35 years in June,) I have several bookshelves full of accumulated "how-to" books. "How to run a church meeting," "How to do evangelism," "How to do youth ministry;" generally speaking, "How to do all the things they forgot to teach you how to do in seminary."
Most of the "how to" books on my shelf have to do with money; how to get it and how to manage it.What we in the church politely refer to as Stewardship of Financial Resources.
And somewhere in most of these books there is a chapter on "the Annual Stewardship Campaign," otherwise known as "Pledging."
Read the rest on the synod blog.

Prayer request from Cross of Life, Roswell, GA
Pastor Terri Stagner-Collier recently sent an email to the synod office requesting prayers for a family of Cross of Life in Roswell, GA. Mr. Jeong Kim and his wife, Young, joined Cross of Life last year and their 2 teenage sons are joining this month. In Korea, Jeong was a pastor in the Methodist church and is currently in process of becoming a Lutheran pastor in the US. Until that time, he and his wife have each been working 3 jobs to meet basic expenses.
Last week, Mr, Kim was in a serious car wreck and has broken his hip. This follows an incident in October, when Mr. Kim was severely beaten during a robbery and his other hip was broken, along with 11 ribs and his shoulder. Mr. Kim is currently at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.
Pastor Stagner-Collier asks for prayers for this hardworking, faithful family. Should persons wish to help monetarily, contributions can sent to:
Cross Of Life Lutheran Church
1000 Hembree Road
Roswell, GA 30076-1121
Please send contributions to Cross of Life and note "The Kim Family" on the contribution and the funds will be used for rent, food, medical bills, etc. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. |
