Received today from Horacio Castillo and Amanda Olson de Castillo
Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala (ILAG)
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Thank you for your on-going prayers for Guatemala, for the ILAG and for the entire region of Central America.
We have a brief update to share with you regarding our communities. Once the rain stops and the rivers return to their pre-flood levels, we will know more. Guatemala will be in a State of Calamity for the next 30 days in which many rights are suspended with the interest of protecting the population and stabilizing the country.
The ILAG will be responding within our ability by providing immediate food relief to the communities that lost their crops. This relief will go out as soon as the highways are re-opened. We are also looking at the need in the coming months to help buy seeds to plant. Most communities use creole seed for their corn so that they can replant from their harvest and with the loss of the harvest that will not be possible in the coming planting season. If you are interested in helping support us in this effort contact your Synod Office or Global Mission of the ELCA.

Lord have Mercy,
