Hunger Huddle 2011 | |
by Jonathan Trapp
Chair, Synod Hunger, Poverty and Justice Task Force While we are surely familiar with our responsibility as followers of Christ to feed the poor and to be a voice of justice for those who are oppressed, sometimes it just seems overwhelming. I find it difficult to know where to start or how to do something that is effective, so I often do not really emphasize that part of the gospel. Do you ever do that? And then you realize that if you keep glossing over the whole "feed the hungry, clothe the poor" parts of the Bible, you are omitting one of the largest focuses in the Bible. So maybe that means that's where our emphasis as a church ought to be. Maybe we ought to look at how we can take our faith and fully apply it in the world. Maybe we ought to be inspired by God's love and work to end the oppression that so many people live under, whether it is oppression from poverty or oppression from hunger or any other form of oppression. |

Hunger Huddle 2011 | |
Are you interested in how hunger is impacting our society today?
Do you feel called to do something to help stop the hunger problem in our world?
The ELCA Southeastern Synod Hunger, Poverty and Justice Task Force, with ELCA World Hunger, is proud to host the 2011 Hunger Huddle with Potlucks to End World Hunger.
This year's conference will be looking at the systemic causes of hunger in today's world, what is being done to combat those issues and how we can all contribute to not only end hunger, but to end the causes of hunger in society.
The conference will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Midtown Atlanta on the 21st of October from 1 to 7pm and will include dinner.
Following the conference, there will be a concert at Redeemer to promote ELCA World Hunger's Malaria Initiative. Register for the conference at http://hungerhuddle2011.eventbrite.com/

Amendments to the Constitution, Bylaws, and Continuing Resolutions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America | |
In August, the 2011 Churchwide Assembly approved changes to the Constitutions and Bylaws of the three expressions of our ELCA - Churchwide, Synod, and Congregation. As partners in ministry, these three expressions have an ongoing commitment to sharing central provisions in our constitutions. Amendments to the Model Constitution for Congregations can be found on the synod website at www.elca-ses.org/Forms.html.
The required texts are indicated with an * in the documents.
Congregations are expected to keep their constitutions current with the Model Constitution, so please consult this document as you update your church documents. Final review of your constitution and questions may be directed to our Synod Constitution Reviewer, Pastor Randy Jones at rtksjones@aoll.com.
Thank you for your partnership in the Gospel,
Pastor Terri Stagner-Collier Synod Secretary |
