Southeastern Synod Assembly confirmation

This email confirms that your registration has been received for the Southeastern Synod Assembly, to be held June 4-6, 2010 at the Chattanooga Convention Center in Chattanooga, TN.
 
We will be using the email address you supplied on your registration to send you important information about the upcoming assembly over the next few weeks and  an evaluation survey following the assembly.  You can opt out of this list at any time by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of this email.
 
Our theme this year is "Into All the World."
 
Hotels for Assembly
The deadline was May 1 to be included in the room blocks for the Assembly.  However, if you still need accommodations, rooms may still be available at the Chattanooga Marriott, directly adjacent to the Chattanooga Convention Center.  Call 423-756-0002 for details.    
 
 
Global Mission Breakfast
On Saturday, June 5, at 7:00 AM the Southeastern Synod Global Mission Team is sponsoring a plated breakfast for assembly attendees to hear the latest on Global Mission efforts.  The cost to attend this breakfast is $15 per person.  To reserve your seat, go to www.elca-ses.org/Assembly.html and click on the link for "Global Mission Breakfast."  This link will be only be active until May 14, so reserve your seat today. Keynote speaker/Assembly offerings
The Rev. John Arthur Nunes will be our keynote speaker.  He is the President and CEO of Lutheran World Relief--an organization that acts to end poverty and uphold human dignity by empowering the world's most impoverished communities to bring about the transformation they need in order to live healthy, safe and secure lives.  All of our Assembly offerings this year will go to LWR.
 
Lutheran Church in Singapore Bishop to participate in this year's assembly
Bishop Terry Kee of the Lutheran Church in Singapore (LCS) will join us and participate in the assembly plenary sessions and worship services to strengthen the bonds of our companion relationship with the Lutheran Church in Singapore. 
 
ELCA Churchwide Representative
The ELCA Churchwide representative this year is the Reverend Dr. Stanley N. Olson.  Pastor Olson has served since November 2005 as Executive Director of the Vocation and Education Unit of the ELCA.  
 
Elections
To be elected at the 2010 ELCA-Southeastern Synod Assembly:

11 voting members for the next ELCA Churchwide Assembly to be held August 14-20, 2011 in Orlando, FL
 
Conference representatives to the Synod Council from all conferences (1-9) 
 
At-large members of the Synod Council (including one young adult)
 
Workshops 
There will be three different opportunites to attend workshops at this year's assembly.  The purpose of these workshops is to equip lay and clergy alike with practical tools and knowledge to take back to their local congregations.  Workshop topics include sessions on Lutheran World Relief, Ministering to Youth and Young Adults, Congregational Best Financial Practices, Suicide Prevention, ELCA Book of Faith Initiative, Disaster Preparedness and Response, Immigration Reform and much more.
