It didn't all begin with ordination...
by Pastor Nancy Christensen
The voices of women have echoed through the centuries, mostly unheard, often deliberately ignored. But women have worked and sacrificed and witnessed for Christ - women have lived and loved and served for the sake of the gospel - and women have played a strong, even if mostly unheralded, role in the growth of the church and in the development of the world...

ELCA Presiding Bishop Expresses "Confident Hope" for Church's Future |
|
Lutherans are "a people of new birth, of living hope through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:3)," said the Rev. Mark S. Hanson, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Because of those gifts from God, Hanson said he "is feeling confident hope" for the future of the ELCA.
Hanson made the remarks during his report to the ELCA Church Council. The council is the ELCA's board of directors and is the interim legislative authority of the church between churchwide assemblies. It met (in Chicago) April 9-12.
Addressing all ELCA members as well as the council, Hanson said the word of God is alive in the ELCA because "Christ is risen." He cited several examples of how the word of God is at work in the denomination.

New President, new website, same caring spirit
Welcome to Ron Turney, newly-elected President of the Board of Lutheran Ministries of Alabama (LMA.) Turney comes to the LMA Board after his retirement. "I had always been interested in Social Ministry," said Turney. "The Board felt that they were in need of a strategic plan that met the spirit of the mission statement, 'Lutheran Ministries of Alabama is a Social Ministry Organization that supports children and families in Alabama that have been affected by natural disasters, social inequities, or personal challenges.' To that end, Lutheran Ministries of Alabama is now in the process of defining areas of focus that can truly make a difference in the lives of Lutheran congregants and the citizens of Alabama as a whole."
Turney plans that current services will be expanded upon a needs-based analysis that is strategic in nature and fulfills the mission statement. "We are embarking on embracing the usage of technology to assist in achieving our goals within commissioning of our website and other technological advances."
Lutheran Ministries of Alabama is participating in the Regions
