The Breath of God | |
A reflection by Pastor Delmer Chilton
I was driving back to the church after a hospital visit one wintry afternoon about 30 years ago. The sun was shining bright and directly into my eyes. I turned left at a lonely country intersection and BAM!
My little Datsun was slammed into by a large delivery truck doing 60 miles an hour. He hit me right behind the back door and the car spun round and round like a top, then WHAM! I stopped, wedged into the ditch on the side of the road...(Click here to read the rest of this reflection on the Southeastern Synod Blog.) |

Update from the Lutheran Church in Guatemala (ILAG) |
|
from Pastor Amanda Olson de Castillo
Brothers and Sisters of the Southeastern Synod,
Blessings to you. Thank you for your support of the ILAG. The year has gotten off to a good start, and we are busy as usual in the ministries that the ILAG realizes throughout Guatemala.
News from churches: Our biggest news, perhaps, is that we made the decision in January with the pastors of the ILAG to withdraw Padre Jose Luis Marroquin from the ILAG church in the ILAG. It was not safe for him to enter and he has three children...(click here to read entire letter.) |

(from an article by Marcus Howard, Marietta Daily Journal, March 27, 2010)
For Christ Lutheran Church (Marietta, GA) and Congregation Ner Tamid, the religious holidays represent a shared tradition rather than division for the Christian and Jewish congregations. Three years ago, members of Congregation Ner Tamid, a small Reform Jewish congregation, asked Christ Lutheran Church if they could worship at the church, which sits on the corner of Dallas Highway and West Sandtown Road in west Cobb. The church agreed, and the relationship between the two congregations has grown ever since.
On Tuesday, March 30, Christ Lutheran, Pastor Rusty Edwards sat down with members of Rabbi Tom Liebschutz's congregation and participated in a Jewish Passover Seder. At the dinner, the story of the Exodus was retold. Edwards shared a hymn he has written, "The Flame," at the beginning of the Seder. For the two congregations, it is another sign of how much they share in common and of their level of mutual respect.
