Flood of 2009
|
|
The
unprecedented weather event of this past week has left behind a trail
of destruction. People have lost their homes, their businesses, their
lives. Out of grief, despair and loss we can bring to them hope,
healing and strength through our partnership in service to those in
need. We will be publishing regular updates in the coming days and
weeks to share news and needs from our congregations across north
Georgia.

Message from Rev. Dena Lane, Nativity Lutheran Church, Austell
|
|
The
church did not suffer any damage, but it has become a make-shift
emergency shelter for three families. The homes of two of the families
are a total loss; the other family was unable to get into their
community until today, but fortunately they did not receive any damage
to their home. The school that has been in the news - Clarkdale
Elementary - is part of our community and several of the families have
experienced severe damage to or total loss of their homes and
belongings. This includes one of the families of our congregation who
stayed here last night before moving to a relative's home today. One
of the parishioners at Nativity is a teacher at that school and my
daughter, Tina Palm, did teacher training field experience for one of
her education classes at this school. Nativity's church executive
committee is meeting tonight to discuss ways to help the school and/or
their families. If you are able to offer assistance of children's
clothing and school supplies please let me know. You may call me at
the church office at 770-941-9347. If you are able to provide
financial assistance, we have set up a disaster fund at church. Checks
can be made out to Nativity Lutheran Church, 2450 Clay Road, Austell,
GA 30106, and indicate disaster relief in the memo section. Thanks for your prayers and assistance.
