Simple Steps Support Kids' Attention
As back-to-school season starts, many parents are turning their thoughts to supporting their kids' success in any way possible. A new report in Pediatrics suggests that exposure to certain pesticides may increase the risk of attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children, so families addressing this condition through other interventions can add certain environmental steps to their bag of tricks.
Pesticides are commonly found in our daily environment. Food, drinking water, and the home are common sources, and dietary sources are the most common exposure source for infants and children, according to the authors of the new study. This study found that organophosphates-specific chemicals found in some pesticides-were more likely to be higher in the urine of children who were diagnosed with ADHD (119 out of 1,139 participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey).

SUPPLEMENT SPOTLIGHT | |
Why use an orange peel extract to battle occasional heartburn? Because orange peel extract works with the body, rather than fighting against it. Unlike many traditional products, a clinically-studied orange peel extract will not reduce mineral absorption, inhibit protein digestion, or shut down acid production. Contrary to many common solutions, it works with your body's natural digestive processes.
Why use Heartburn Free® with ROH10®? It provides lasting relief from occasional heartburn for up to six months or more. Heartburn Free with ROH10® delivers relief from occasional heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach. With Heartburn Free, every-other-day supplementation brings everyday occasional heartburn relief - your stomach and esophagus will thank you for it. After completing the initial regimen, symptoms of occasional heartburn occur much more infrequently. And, if they do return after the initial 10 capsule regimen, a single capsule of Heartburn Free should provide relief.

Five Fitness Tips for Kids

Maintaining a healthy weight is hard for adults, but it can be just a difficult for a child. We all hear that proper nutrition and exercise are they right way to go but with video games and television it can be hard to motivate kids to get out off of the couch and convince them to enjoy a physical activity. The best strategy is of course to start emphasizing health early on. But it is never too late to begin implementing health conscious rules in a household. Start with exercise because it is easier to change a sedentary routine than it is to change what they like to eat. 1) Less screen time: The most important rule of all is to limit a child's access to television and other screen-time activities such as video games and movies, and for the technology savvy child, computer games and chat time. Unlimited access to such activities promotes a sedentary lifestyle, which will have bad results for a child's heart as well as their weight. Childhood lifestyle tendencies are likely to carry over into adulthood, so start now. The best way to go about implementing such changes is to sit down and have a family meeting where you establish new screen-time rules. For example, let them know there will be no more screen time before dinner, or that they can only watch one video a day. Make sure that everyone in the house, including adults, follows these rules.

HEALTHY HUMOR | |
At the school where my mother worked, the two first grade teachers were named Miss Payne and Mrs. Hacking. One morning, the mother of a student called in the middle of a flu epidemic to excuse her daughter from school.
"Is she in Payne or Hacking?" the school secretary asked.
"She feels fine," said the mother. "We have company in town and I am keeping her home."
