This year as we pulled on our Mad Scientist Lab Coats and wiggled the little ones into speckled Lab rat costumes, It could not be denied that we found our true selves this Halloween. And to think I had always thought I was a ninja princess on a pirate ship* ...It came as quite a shock to feel so much more comfortable as mad scientists, then just ordinary folk. For me It was the freedom of messy hair and the plethora of pockets and for Tim, well he just likes being called Professor. I don't know where this will take us in the future, but I thought it might explain things should I stop brushing my hair.

I had nothing to do with this book, but I am pretty sure it is the funniest best thing you can get for 12 dollars with free shipping in the world!
I highly recommend it as the perfect gift for anyone with family, dysfunctional or not, because, chances are...someone is totally nuts.
In addition to being a great comic and beautiful person Catherine is one of my great inspirations.

Catherine came to visit us and I remember her talking about this project she was working on.
I thought it was a great idea and I was like "Yeah thats cool " but to be honest I thought it would end up in great idea land, where ideas congregate in existential limbo. Then the next thing I know, here it is. Fantastic, in a small way this book has changed my whole outlook on the world. Like you can really do the things you set out to do. Bring your dreams to fruition.

Greetings!
Hoping this newsletter finds you happy and well. The past few months here at Hose Headquarters have
just flown by, it's possible I missed a few days altogether, suspicious of a time warp. I have been working on my graphic novel in between some logos and lot's of detailed portraits. Other then that I have to blame my Little Hoses for distracting me with their adorableness.

Sometimes when I don't feel like working on what I am working on, I draw some really random stuff. It piles up on my desk and I think, "What am I ever going to do with this drawing of a worm riding a bicycle or two sock puppets falling in love over a milkshake?" and then it hit me.

This started out as an answer to pulling the wool over your eyes, I don't think anyone will be tattooing this on their person, but I have to say I Love this potato. I just think he* is so cute. Unfortunately this led me astray from my career goals a few years ago when I drew this and then decided I would sell actual potato sweaters..you know because they should be stored in a cool dark place!
Anyway this is one of my favorite doodles, so I hope you like it.
*it could be argued that this is a unisex sweater and that the potato is not necessarily a boy, but keep in mind I drew him, and therefore, I know what's under his sweater.

THE DETAILED PORTRAIT
 I have been doing a lot of detailed portraits lately. And there is almost an art to it. Really. Like delving into a family or persons mind to uncover the most specific details. Is is archeology? It's almost as fun and the findings are fantastic. What are their favorite things, experiences, foods, sayings, colors, objects, places, collections, moments. How did they meet, fall in love? The above print was created for the sweetest couple and each element is specific to them. From an unnatural appreciation for ravioli to their first date at Prom, I attempt to capture the little details that make them so unique.
These gifts make great surprises for any occasion, as prints, or family notecards, there are endless printing possibilities!
