I DIG IT
Greetings!

Hoping this letter finds you well! In addition to serving as beacon of illustration news and personal thought.  This newsletter is also  an extension of my own waving arm and is my way of reaching out to "the people who I consider my people".
The picture of my blister past few months have been busy here at Hose Headquarters. I am so in love with my current projects that I invented a new gang sign. Curiously it depicts the blister on my finger from feverishly drawing late into the night. If I were a severe hypochondriac I would be elevating said drawing finger and applying ice as per the recommendation of Web MD. But not I , I laugh in the face of danger.

You should know that I soar on your responses and thank you for all your support.

Happy Trails to you,
ED Hose

GREEN EYES IN AFRICA
new hope for green eyes in africa   I ask the Universe for a lot of things... stuff, magical diet pills, the health, safety and happiness of loved ones, infrared night vision goggles
etc...But mostly I ask for inspiration.  This past month Inspiration came in the form of Ryan Oliver Hansen and the New Hope orphanage that he runs in Cameroon, Africa.

I received an e-mail about a fundraiser for Green Eyes in Africa. After visiting the website I was moved to donate a print to the silent auction. The above illustration"New Hope" (available in some fashion coming soon to http://www.greeneyesinafrica.org/)  depicts Ryan and the children in the orphanage sharing a tea party.  Some of you may know I grew up in a town called New Hope, I saw that as a sign.   Ryan was in the states fund raising in our small town because of a woman named Casey, who while studying in Cameroon, was so inspired by his Orphanage that she decided to host a fundraiser when she returned to the states... and Brunswick GA. is where she ended up. She hosted a fabulous fundraiser with a viewing of GREEN EYES IN AFRICA. The documentary that Ryan made of his experiences. It is a must see and can be found on the green eyes website.  You can actually see the transformation of children as they go from lost souls.... to found children full of hope and promise.  I have been talking nonstop about this organization. For me, this story is not just about Africa, or all of the children rescued from abuse, it is about following your heart to do what you believe is right when you see something wrong. Ryan Oliver Hansen is just this guy. This cool young guy who once wanted to work on the E Channel  ( hello who doesn't ) And instead he went to volunteer in an Orphanage, was so appalled at the conditions, corruption and abuse that he risked his own life to open a new orphanage. In doing so he rescued 9 children who have blossomed under his supervision and will doubtless continue to grow and help the people in their path.

I have not been able to get the chance meeting of Ryan and The Green Eyes in Africa  Friends out of my head. Regular person, remarkable bravery.  It is the premise of my newest most beloved project. See rough sketch below. A graphic novel about changing the world.  This is my favorite project I have ever worked on. I believe it is important, it says something about the power and gifts that each person has to make a difference.

WALK TO CURE DIABETES
for all your art dreams and illustration desires Our Little 8 year old
Friend Molly was diagnosed with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes in May.

Along with a 1/2 million or so walkers across the country, Mollys' family will be participating in this years Walk to Cure Diabetes.  Her family asked me to design this shirt representing their heritage and also commitment to supporting their daughter through countless insulin injections.

I was proud to create this design for the family to show solidarity as they walk. Nothing speaks louder then matching tee- shirts.

THE HOMELESS DOG BOOK FOR HOMELESS DOGS
The dog book bubble bath TAKE ME HOME We'll have a blast (working title)

An activity book about shelter dogs. I started this project a few years ago and finally finished it.

And now I have no idea what to do with it. My hope is that a dog shelter will pick it up and use it as a fundraiser. But right now, like so many cats and dogs,  it is homeless.  This is where an agent, business manager or marketing person would really be a great addition in my life. Maybe I should give up on Night Vision goggles and seek out an Agent, huh?  ....I just want to draw pictures.

I DIG IT
These are just some things I think are cool!
I DIDN'T DRAW OR WRITE THIS. I JUST THINK IT IS A HYSTERICAL
the ridiculous race book The Ridiculous Race
by Steve Hely and Vali Chandrasekaran

If you are looking to test the limits of your bladder control, or find a new way to wake up your neighbors , and laughing like a highly medicated clown seems like the way to go. This book will not let you down.  Also it is Illustrated by an Amazing Artist Tim Tomkinson who I don't know personally but I am familiar with his answering machine, (from what I can tell by his answering machine, Tim is a very good listener). Anyway I think Great art and Ridiculousness should be spread all around.

SKYPE! It's Free
For those of you who haven't heard! It's Free video calls over the internet. You simply download skype to your computer, and then type in the person your looking for ( ME! maybe?) call and voila your connected face to face if you have a web cam, or ear to ear if you don't. It's great for showing off kids, or rashes, or new haircuts. Or Art.  I love it because its free. You can work while you use it, and it's funny.  I recommend it highly!

* that being said there are a few minor flaws to the program , I have to mention, occasionally people try to contact you that you don't know !or want to talk with.
I just delete them. For instance there is a Hose Factory in China that is relentless. And some people I know are "bothered" by women offering date-like services and maybe some people use a webcam for unsavory practices.
You must Skype intelligently

DANIELLE BAGS NEW WEBSITE ... AGAIN I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS ,
I CANT EVEN FIND A WAY TO MAKE THIS ABOUT ME...

WHICH BOGGLES ME...OH THERE I AM. wheww that was a close one.
danielle bags purses     Danielle has been making custom handbags and things from vintage and found materials for a long time,  There is something really unique about bags made from pants, or the way you will find a shirt pocket cleverly tucked into a purse as a compartment to hold your change. I know that I have been inspired to see how Danielle can bring new life to the most forgotten things. Not just art, not just practical, not just saving the planet, Danielle's Bags, wallets, ipod cozies, dolls, changing pads and shopping bags are an inspiration.
And while I am personally not ready to launder cloth napkins the way she does. Her bags are a very cool reminder to try just a little harder, to waste a little less, and to value a little more. DANIELLE BAGS NEW WEBSITE  I DIG IT!
