Brick in the wallMore than a brick in the wall

It was Pink Floyd who sang "All we are is just another brick in the wall." This Saturday, starting at 1:30, there will be a reunion to celebrate the renovation of the Ernie Chattin Baseball Field in Central Park. A recent article in the Daily Independent describes the generous donation by Ashlander Gary Wright toward the renovation of this field including a new press box. Bricks for memory of you or a loved one are available at two different sizes and prices by calling the Parks Department at 327-2046 or by emailing Amber  in the Parks Department.

 river diversRiver Construction Update

Divers of the Ashland Fire Department try to remove debris from the river front construction project. The problem is construction crews have hit an obstruction(s) in the river bed that may require blasting or a modification of the design of the wall. The city commission has approved funds from within the $10.6 million dollar grant to continue construction. Do not view this as a setback as construction has resumed. See construction yourself by parking at the 15th Street transportation and use caution walking across railroad tracks. Do not attempt to drive across the railroad track at 15th Street. Too much chance of you getting a flat tire or your car stuck.

 Central Fire StationAge & Experience

If you think firefighters and police officers are getting younger, here's a few statistics. It may be true, depending on your point of view. Due to recent retirements, the average age of a fireman in Ashland is 41.2 years old with average experience of 13.1 years. This will change soon with the addition of seven new firefighters to fill vacant positions.

Contrast the above with the Ashland Police Department where is average age is 35 years old with 9 years experience.

Central Park PondCentral Park pond 1939
If you only click one one link or any other Kevin Mail I have sent around, check out this 1939 video of Central Park pond. The pond was removed in the late 1950's and restored in the mid 1990's. I stumbled onto this from a MySpace friend. Note the houses on Lexington Ave. are much the same and the formal dress of the ice skaters using the pond. Men wearing hats, like I wear all the time in the winter. Click here. and give it a few seconds to load.
