Pending home sales rise 3.2% in March
WASHINGTON - There was another ray of hope Monday for the distressed housing market: the National Association of Realtors said the volume of signed contracts to buy previously occupied homes rose for the second month in a row.
Homebuyers taking advantage of bargain prices, low interest rates and a tax credit for first-time buyers pushed the seasonally adjusted index of pending sales up by 3.2 percent to 84.6 in March.
The results not only beat analysts' flat expectations, but were also 1.1 percent above last year's levels, the first time that has happened since December.

Mortgage trouble? Here's help
Maybe the mortgage-delinquency notices are just starting to arrive after a missed payment or two. Or maybe foreclosure is starting to look like a distinct possibility.
Conventional wisdom suggests contacting your lender as soon as possible and seeing whether something can be worked out. At the very least, you should open any letters you receive from the lender as soon as they arrive and deal with them.
But if the next step doesn't seem obvious, Patricia Hasson, president of the Consumer Credit Counseling Services of the Delaware Valley in Philadelphia, advises that you contact a housing-counseling agency approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and "set up an appointment to understand your options and develop a plan."

Netown reviews development plan
NEWTOWN - GMH Capital Partners, a national real estate developer with offices in Newtown, recently came before township supervisors to get feedback on a proposal to void an approved plan for age-restricted condominiums and erect 320 luxury apartments instead.
In 2006, a plan for 320 age-restricted condominiums was approved for 30 acres on the north side of Route 252, west of Gradyville Road.
The landowner, D.R. Horton, started to clear and grade the parcel, but abandoned the Somerset project.
Although 6 acres of woodlands remain, much of the sloped tract has sat barren for the last three years.
