Media Handles Development Matters By Susan L. Serbin Media Borough Council approved an ordinance which will shield residential districts from new development by landscape buffering. While the move may be late for some, it will protect current residents from future growth. The recent ordinance adoption followed advertisement of the legislation and a public hearing. Council Member Peter Williamson, community development chairman, credited colleague James Cunningham for advocating the change. The overall intent is to protect the residential character of the R-1 and R-2 (lower density) districts, and to provide for transitional buffers where such districts abut other zoning districts. Buffers may include landscaping, fencing, street walls, berms or a combination of barriers depending on the physical and topographical conditions of areas.
