State court slaps down SLAPP suit

A Pennsbury man who asked Chester County officials to enforce a deed restriction it had on use of the Pennsbury Township Park has won his lawsuit.
People "don't have to be afraid of participating publicly," Aaron McIntyre said. "They can make a difference in trying to protect resources."
McIntyre was commenting on a Commonwealth Court ruling granting him immunity from Pennsbury Village Associates, the developer of the proposed, and supervisor-approved, Pennsbury Village.
The suit in question was a SLAPP suit, or Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation. A SLAPP suit is one "in which a corporation or developer sues an organization in an attempt to scare it into dropping protests against a corporate initiative," according to www.nolo.com.
