Newtown, Berwind to discuss deal on town center

NEWTOWN --- Township supervisors and Berwind Properties Group representatives will hold a public meeting Sept. 11 to discuss the terms of a proposed settlement agreement that would allow the construction of a town center on the 210-acre Ellis Preserve.
The start time for the rescheduled public forum will be 7 p.m., but the venue has not been confirmed.
Township officials are hoping to use the air-conditioned auditorium at Marple Newtown High School, 40 Media Line Road, to accommodate a potential crowd of hundreds. The Gauntlett Center would be an alternate location.
A township planning commission meeting originally scheduled for the same night will be rescheduled.
Next month's special town center meeting will start with a presentation of the salient points of a settlement proposal - the result of private negotiations recently held at the municipal building.
