Just 2 weeks left for July Sales

Dear Forklift Fan,

Great news - thanks to a huge donation from a full-house deconstruction job, Community Forklift is currently having a Lumber Extravaganza!  We have many 12ft+ lengths of 2x8 (.40/ft) and 2x10 (.45/ft) and 1x8 pine subfloor/sheathing. Our dedicated Donations Team was out picking up a full truckload of lumber yesterday, and there will be more to come.  Perfect for building that raised-bed garden you've been dreaming of!

There are also a lot of fun events coming up later this summer, so read on for all the news!

Check your basement - any A/C window units or dorm fridges gathering dust?  Donate 'em today!

Community Forklift partners with a number of non-profits who provide direct services to families and individuals in need.  Working with these partners, CF donates essentials like appliances and bathroom fixtures to low-income families through our Home EssentiaLs Program (HELP).

Our HELP program currently has a long (and growing!) waiting list of families who hope to receive window air conditioners.  Many are seniors, veterans, or families with children who cannot afford to buy air conditioners, and this heat can be dangerous!  Do you have any *working* A/C units you could donate to CF?

We also have a waiting list for families transitioning from homelessness who are temporarily living in hotels and need small dorm-sized fridges in good working order

If you have an a/c or dorm fridge to donate, please bring them by the warehouse during regular business hours, and you will receive a letter itemizing your tax-deductible donation.  Thank you in advance for your generosity; these items will make a HUGE difference to our neighbors in need!

creationsHow has Community Forklift helped you?

Have you created something really neat with our materials?  Please email photos and a short description to Bea(at)CommunityForklift.com to be included in our Customer Creations page!
banished? productions is a DC based avant-pop theater company - and they carved their 10-foot "TACTILE DINNER CAR" out of foam found here!

Have you saved money?  Fixed up your home or community?  Has your business benefited by donating or shopping at Community Forklift?
Let us know if you're willing to be profiled in an upcoming newsletter or blog post.

When we meet with grant-makers and potential funders, it makes such a difference when we can share examples about how our low-cost materials have benefited our neighbors and the local economy.  As you may know, we're currently seeking funds to purchase & repair our building, to ensure that the 'Lift remains a permanent resource for years to come.  So please consider sharing your story & photos to help the cause!

Reuse can be beautiful, green options don't always require an expert, and stepping stones are a great asset to yards large and small!  Jenny Marsh will demonstrate how to make them using reclaimed tiles from Community Forklift.

Ice Cream Social - August 7th!

Green Drinks logo

It's been hot this summer, so in August we're changing things up:  Prince George's Green Drinks & Community Forklift are hosting an Ice Cream Social!

Where: the meeting room at Jason's Deli, 7356 Baltimore Ave, College Park, MD 20740

When:  Tues. August 7th 5:30 PM-7:30 PM

Why:  Did you know that there are over 70 green businesses in Prince George's County?  We've also got countless watershed volunteers, environmental clubs, activists, nature lovers, and Forklift Fans. Let's get to know each other!

RSVP or find more info at the Prince George's County Green Drinks Facebook Page

FIRST- TIME GREEN DRINKER?  Don't be shy, just come on in and look for the folks with the nametags. Look for Ruthie or Kelsey (they'll be wearing the green hardhats), and they'll introduce you around.

Capital Fringe Festival has an official
Green Building Materials Sponsor

cap fringe logo Perhaps you know that Capital Fringe is a huge, amazing, off-beat festival for the performing arts  (this year, it runs from July 12th - 29th.  We've got a ton of free Fringe guides at our checkout - pick one up next time you're at the 'Lift!)

But did you know that they're also committed to reuse and sustainability? They've got tips on how to be a green audience, and they partner with Community Forklift:  for several summers, we've given them all sorts of odds & ends.  In return, they give us SO MUCH publicity - for example, they feature us in their guide, which reaches 40,000 people around the region.

This year, we're excited to see "DC Trash," a musical satire that looks at the city from within a trash truck.
So head on over to Fort Fringe and see if you can spot our reclaimed materials!

We've heard that our church pews have been used for audience seating, our furniture and cabinets were used in the box office & the Baldacchino Gypsy Tent Bar, and tons of our doors are now forming walls between the various performance spaces.

How cool is this?  We love it when schools and youth organizations are able to reuse our materials in creative ways!  Check out what the Tink Camps at the Takoma Park Cooperative Nursery School have constructed...
