Best Home Store!
We only have a few days left to win!
It's that time of the year again - the Washington Post Express is holding the "Best of 2011" contest. As a nonprofit, we don't have room in our budget for advertising, and winning this contest could mean great free publicity for our work! We won it in 2009 and 2010, and each time, we got a surge of phone calls from folks who wanted to donate materials instead of dumping.

October Sales
75% off Medicine Cabinets
Take 75% off all mirrored medicine cabinets priced at $35 or less (Sale does not include items without price tags, or items from our consignment partners). Here's great project idea from A Beach Cottage: buy several vintage cabinets, and detach the mirrors (you can leave the metal cabinet parts at Community Forklift to be recycled). Then, hang them on a wall to bring light into a dark corner or hallway!
50% off Kitchen Cabinet Sets
Take 50% off the marked prices on
most kitchen cabinet sets.
(Sale does not apply to select sets, individual cabinets, bathroom vanity cabinets, other types of furniture, or cabinets without price tags).
We are discounting these sets to make room for our big Extravaganza - so please note that cabinets purchased by Oct. 20th must be removed from the store before Oct. 22nd.
50% off Fireplace Mantels

Take half off all mantels with orange price tags marked at $375 or less (Sale does not apply to mantels with white price tags, to mantels without price tags, or to other types of fireplace surrounds or equipment).
Perhaps you don't have a fireplace. Well, mantels also make great headboards, or entryway organizers.
Design Sponge featured this colorful bookshelf, which could be a great way to create a focal point in a bland room. In a narrow living room, it also could be used for shallow storage space underneath a flat-screen TV.
50% off Salvaged Doors

Take half off salvaged doors marked at $50 or less, including interior, exterior, hollow-core, solid wood, screen, storm, security, and french doors (Sale does not apply to surplus/new doors, cabinet doors, sets of doors, doors in frames, or doors without price tags).
This month, they are cheap enough that you can afford to experiment! Create a chalkboard to plan your week, or get inspired by this room divider created by Forklift Fan Lisa Lincoln. For a rustic table like the one recently featured on Content in a Cottage, just add sawhorses.
50% off Neutral Ceramic Tile
Take 50% off the marked price on standard ceramic tile (Sale does not include other sizes or types of tile; unusual glazes, shapes, or colors; decorative, terra cotta, glass, or stone tiles; or items from our consignment partners).
20% off Lighting in Salvage Arts
Take 20% off the marked price on vintage light fixtures with white hanging tags, including chandeliers, sconces, Victorian, schoolhouse industrial, and Deco fixtures (Sale does not include other electrical items or lights with orange tags).
Featured Item:
Vintage Hooks
Our Salvage Arts consignment partner recently brought in a big lot of antique coat hooks! There are a variety of styles, priced from $1 to $10 each. Prices as marked |

Dirt-cheap plants, straw bales, decking, & more!
Landscaping materials
arriving Oct. 5th
Did you get a chance to visit the Solar Decathalon down on the Mall? The U.S. Department of Energy challenged collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive.

As they break down their exhibits, many of the teams have contacted us about donating truckloads of leftover landscaping items. We're still not sure exactly what we'll get, but starting this Wednesday, Oct. 5th, it will all be here waiting for you!
Priced to move
We don't have much room for this stuff, and we're not set up to water hundreds of plants - so we will be pricing them to move! For example, we expect that most shrubs, grasses, and trees will be priced at $1 - $10 each. Straw bales (perfect for a fall or Halloween display in your yard) will be only $2 each.
Freebies to nonprofits
Please spread the word: we may be able to donate some of these materials to nonprofits and community gardens! (you just need to bring in your 501c3 letter)
