Ask-the-Expert Series

We've got some great experts coming to Community Forklift this weekend.  These informal talks are free - just drop by the store.

If you can't make it, keep an eye on our calendar - we will be lining up other topics in July and August.

Ask the Organizer

Sat Jun 25, 11am - 12pm

Clutter

Where is your biggest clutter spot?

Clutter!  Where does it come from?  Am I the only one who can't keep up with the piles of papers?  Whose kitchen counters are crowded and closets are overflowing?

Am I the only one who buys things I already own because I can't find them?  Who wastes time looking for my keys, my phone, and everything else?  Who pays bills late because I don't see them?

Am I the only one who finds it hard to relax at home because of clutter?  Who would rather eat out?  Who avoids having guests?  Why can't I just get a grip on this? What steps should I take first?  How do I decide what to keep and what to discard?  Then what?

LOGOThese are some of the questions that clients ask Judy Tiger, owner of Just That Simple. She'll share her answers to these and other insights gained from the 4+ years her company has served the DC metro area, providing home & office organizing services and move planning & preparation services, in settings ranging from studio apartments to 5 bedroom homes (and small businesses and nonprofits). Her goal for clients? Less stress, refreshed living and working spaces, more productivity and more fun.

An unusual request

Dear Forklift Fans -

David North has been volunteering at Community Forklift for years.  He has been a reliable friend to the 'Lift, and shows up every week, no matter how hot it is or how many worries he has on his mind.  He loves to help his neighbors and has been a volunteer builder on several Extreme Home Makeover renovations.

PIC OF DAVID

Recently, we learned that he could use some help himself, and we decided to share his request with the Forklift community.

He's very worried about his cat Maggie.  He says, "She is an American Bobtail - she looks like a calico but has no tail. I got her from Howard County Animal Control eight years ago, just as she was about to be put down.  Maggie will get on your shoulder, put both front paws around your neck, and squeeze - giving you a hug!  She has not been herself recently and a doctor's visit confirmed that a tumor is growing in her hind quarters and kidneys."

 PIC OF MAGGIE THE CAT

After being laid off a few years ago, he lost his house.  He is now working and climbing out of bankruptcy -  but is not sure how he can pay the vet fees.

He told us, "I am in need of funds to pay her surgery and recovery bill of $1,400.  If you are able to help me, these can be credited directly to Everheart Vet Hospital in Glen Burnie, Md.  I can try to pay you back over time, or trade services- carpentry, design, massage therapy, general labor!  Thank you for any assistance in helping her."

If you are able to help, even a little, you can contact David at

 Thanks everybody!
