Fun Events!

This month, there are a lot of chances to learn about healthier, greener living.  Click the links for more info!

 THIS Saturday,
Oct. 3:
from 11-4 at the Prince George's Community College in Largo

The Takoma Area Green Home Tour (free!)
from 11-5.  Learn about saving money and energy on the Takoma Area Green Homes and Gardens Tour.  Free tour guides can be downloaded at www.Truthful-Living.com.

Explore a wide range of energy saving and green construction in Takoma Park homes -- from small-scale energy efficiency retrofits, to green additions to new construction.  Also see gardens with bio-retention systems, rain gardens, wildlife habitats and native plants.

The focus of the tour is to demonstrate changes everyone can make in their homes and yards, especially as it relates to saving energy.  This year's tour is very compact, so you can easily walk or bike to many of the sites.
(The Green Homes Tour is a sub-tour of the DC Solar Homes Tour. See over 70 homes in the greater DC area with a focus on solar features, Sat. the 3rd AND Sun. the 4th).

 Next weekend,
The DC Green Festival is coming to the DC Convention Center on October 10 & 11!  It's a huge annual event, and a fantastic chance to learn about hundreds of sustainable businesses around town - from organic restaurants to hybrid taxis to green trash haulers.  It's also an excellent place to find fair-trade, handcrafted, and unusual holiday gifts (Don't forget, admission is free if you volunteer some time at Community Forklift's booth - more info at right)

November Art Show
Do you make crafts or art from what you find at the Community Forklift?  We would like to celebrate the Forklift's Fourth Anniverary with the artisans who give new lives to our old materials.  Amateurs encouraged!  We're still figuring out the details, but for more info or to submit your work for consideration, send your name and phone number to [email protected]

Now Hiring!

Community Forklift needs someone who can occasionally work at the register and in the girl checkoutwarehouse.  We are looking for someone with retail experience, an easygoing personality, and some knowledge of home improvement.  You should be able to lift and move building materials.

If you are willing to work on an as-needed basis, please send your resume to [email protected] or drop it off at the store.
