India: Experts Warn Diabetes Patients to be Wary of Diabetic Foot

Experts who are convening for the mid-term continuing medical education (CME) on "High-risk diabetic foot" organized by the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), UP Chapter and Indian Podiatry Association (IPA) in Kanpur on Sunday, 11 April 2010, are sounding an alarm bell for people with diabetes to be wary of diabetic foot.

"People with diabetes can, over time, develop nerve damage throughout the body. Some people with nerve damage have no symptoms. Others may have symptoms such as pain, tingling, or numbness - loss of feeling - in the hands, arms, feet, and legs" informed Professor (Dr) Rama Kant, who is the President of ASI, UP, and Head of the Department of Surgery, at CSM Medical University in Lucknow, India. Diabetic Neuropathy: Preventing and Reversing the Damage

This grim but very real condition is called diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), and according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease 60-70 percent of diabetics suffer some kind of nerve damage.

That means as the number of type 2 diabetics continues to spiral out of control, we are facing a growing population suffering from pedal disasters like these. Pedorthic Pre-Certification Training Course July 26th - August 8th, 2010

In cooperation with the ABC and BOC requirements, the Eneslow Pedorthic Institute (EPI) is offering a three-level competency training course for aspiring CPEDS. To provide maximum benefit in a minimum of time, a portion of the level one curriculum will be administered through a distance learning program that includes required readings, and testing of all mandatory topics. Upon passing the level one test, students will attend the remainder of the pedorthic pre-certification course at the Eneslow Pedorthic Institute. The course includes the required tests for competency to sit for the ABC or BOC exams.

Upon completing the course and successfully passing the competency tests, and fulfilling the 1,000 hour "Clinical practice Requirement" students are eligible to sit for the ABC or BOC exam to earn their Pedorthic Certification (CPED or BOC Pedorthist).
