Eye on Equipment... Work Station Software Update
In dynamic impact testing, the need for timed events often arises. Some examples include triggering safety restraint systems such as airbags upon or before impact, as well as synchronizing data acquisition, high speed cameras, lights, and other peripheral devices. MGA has continued to develop the Dynamic Impact System Workstation by improving its triggering capabilities and increasing repeatability and accuracy. Programmable triggers have been integrated into the controller, removing the need for a separate timer module. Timing is easily programmed using the touchscreen interface during test setup. Frequently used timing profiles can also be saved to memory for later use. In addition to the general purpose triggers, a fire delay trigger has also been added. This acts as a trigger while also delaying the impactor fire, and is useful for tests such as Ejection Mitigation testing which requires up to a 6 second firing delay from the time the airbag is deployed. Trigger times can be set from 0 to 65 seconds with an accuracy of 1 ms. Three general purpose triggers and profiles are standard. Additional triggers and profiles can be added as requested. General Motors - One Hundred Years Old
September 18, 2008 marks GM's 100th Anniversary. During this last century GM has overcome huge business challenges. The company has a legacy unmatched by any other automotive company. This legacy extends not only to their technical accomplishments, but also to their business strategies for marketing and company organization.
GM was founded by William "Billy" Durant in Flint, Michigan. Durant was a manufacturer of horse-drawn vehicles. His first interest in motor cars was with Buick, which he acquired in 1904. As Buick began to prosper, Durant used its success as the basis for forming GM in 1908. After its incorporation, over 20 other companies were soon acquired including Oldsmobile, Cadillac, and Oakland (now Pontiac). However, due to the high level of debt created, Durant was dismissed from the company in 1910.
