WILLIAM PENN HOUSE Starts GAP YEAR PROGRAM
At William Penn House, we are committed to supporting youth in following their leadings while promoting peacemaking. As part of this commitment, we will be welcoming recent high school graduates for a Gap Year Program starting this Fall. This is for young adults who are envision college in their future, but are not sure they are ready for either the academic rigors or the direction they want to take. This program is being developed with special attention to support participants in preparing intellectually and in life-skills for the challenges of college, while exploring their own leadings and learning to balance them with day-to-day responsibilities in a nurturing, safe environment.
For more information or links to the application, please visit our website. We welcome any questions from potential applicants or their parents/guardians.

Winter Events
Things to do during the cold months
Sunday, February 7 Potluck: Steve Coleman will join us to talk about Washington Parks and People, an organization he helped to start in 1990 after the murder of a 17-year old youth next to his house on Martin Luther King Day. Steve is an attender of Friends Meeting of Washington, and started his professional career over 40 years ago as an AFSC volunteer. He has always found deep Quaker inspiration and roots in Parks and People's work to reconnect people with the land and to use the land to help all life. Potluck starts at 6:30, presentation at 7:30. All are welcome.
Thursday, February 25: Washington Quaker Workcamp Open House. This is an opportunity to meet the various service organizations with whom we work, and to learn about our shared passions for a healthy community. Light refreshments will be served from 7-9PM Please RSVP to Greg (Greg@williampennhouse.org).
Sunday, March 7, Potluck: "The Bible and Homosexuality: The Clobber Passages". How much do we know about the passages that are routinely used to condemn homosexuality? What are the struggles and interpretations? Why does this matter? These are some of the questions we will be exploring at the March potluck, starting at 6:30PM.
Friday and Saturday, March 26 and 27: Appreciative Inquiry: The Art of the Question. This two-day workshop will be an opportunity to learn how to use questions as a method of finding common ground, holding tension, living with greater integrity, and bringing community transformation to social justice. Cost: $125/person, $100/person for groups of 4 or more, $75 for students. See our website for more information.
