Lis Neris
After 133 years, now available in Ontario!
Greetings!

We are very pleased to announce that the wines of Lis Neris are now available in Ontario.

Alvaro Pecorari's family have farmed grapes in Friuli, Italy near the Slovenian border since 1879 and in 1982 Alvaro assumed control of the business and turned the production towards high quality wines that would hold their own amongst the world's best.

We were absolutely thrilled with Lis Neris' entire selection of wines when we met this year at Vinitaly.  They have won innumerable awards including 11 Three-Glass awards from Gambero Rosso - the 2010 guide states "He (Alvaro Pecorari) always has us expecting excellence."

The style is noticeably luxurious across all three tiers of production; the IGT varietal wines, the single-vineyard wines, and the top-tier blends.  Their style of Pinot Grigio pushes the boundaries of the perception of this much misunderstood grape.  The Chardonnay generates memories of Burgundy or the true Sonoma coast.  Lis, the luxurious white blend of Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc is simply one-of-a-kind.

Ian D'Agata from International Wine Cellar calls their 'Gris' Pinot Grigio "one of the best five or six of Italy", and Antonio Galloni's February 2012 Wine Advocate review admits in full disclosure that even though the winery is owned by some of Antonio's wife's extended family he felt that not publishing a review of the wines would have made the Friuili review incomplete and his readers ultimately worse off for the exclusion.  In short, these are exciting and interesting wines.  Reserve yours now!

Lis Neris "Jurosa" Chardonnay 2009
$38.95 per bottle, 12 bottles per case

Jurosa Bottle
"The 2009 Chardonnay Jurosa is fabulous in this vintage. It shows all of the elements that make the best Friulian wines so compelling; expressive varietal fruit, vibrant minerality and the personality of the vintage. The wine literally bristles on the palate with energy focus and vitality. A poised, centered finish gives the wine its sense of proportion and balance. The 2009 Jurosa is quite simply one of the very finest wines I have ever tasted from Lis Neris, and I have been visiting here for over a decade. Proprietor Alvaro Pecorari notes that this was the last fruit to be harvested in 2009 yet had the highest acidity. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017."

Lis Neris "Gris" Pinot Grigio 2009
$38.95 per bottle, 12 bottles per case

Gris_bttl

"The 2009 Pinot Grigio Gris exudes the warmth of the year in its fat, voluptuous fruit. Despite its richness the Gris possesses terrific overall balance, although the style is decidedly big. I would choose to drink the 2009 with fairly rich foods. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. "

"Bright straw-yellow. Floral, scented nose of yellow apple, pear, honey and wet stone, with an overlay of vanilla. Supple and spicy, this midweight Pinot Grigio offers a suave texture and captivating flavours of pear, apricot, licorice and sexy oak. Finishes seamless and juicy, with very good length. Each year, Gris can be ranked in the top five or six Pinot Grigios of Italy."

Lis Neris "Lis" 2007
$54.95 per bottle, six bottles per case
Order pending, ETA September 2012

Lis, one of their flagship whites, is hard to describe but easy to appreciate for its tense toasty melon and citrus nose, its expansive palate of bright fruit flavours framed by musky, smoky notes and creamy textures thanks to an elevage in 500 litre old French oak and plenty of bātonnage or lees stirring.

"The 2007 Lis is another fabulous wine from Lis Neris. Layers of fruit flow effortlessly from this textured, dazzling white. The Lis is impeccable from start to finish. The wine continues to blossom on the palate, showing remarkable elegance and finesse. Lis is 50% Pinot Grigio, 30% Chardonnay and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. I can't remember tasting a vintage in which the blend has been so harmonious. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016."
